I'm not entirely sure I how I feel about his Alaric storyline. It's not my favorite at the moment, and I'm skeptical, but I'm not ready to write it off or anything. Honestly, the other stuff is just more interesting to me at the moment.

Alaric has sort of started to believe that maybe he is capable of this. But mostly because he's frustrated and they don't have any real answers. Meredith gives him a CAT scan, but doesn't find anything physically wrong with him. They sort of decide that every time he dies, it kills a piece of his psyche. Thankfully, Bonnie thinks she has a spell that can help, but Elena needs to get Alaric's wedding ring.

However, when she and Stefan are at the house, they stumble across pictures of Alaric's victims, as well as some kind of manifesto that he wants to send Jeremy (since he has the other ring) along with a list of founders, some of whom are dead with their names crossed off. The two of them hurry back to the house.

But, while they are gone, Alaric has woken up from a nap and is crazy. He dumps out Meredith's tranquilizers, and attacks her with a knife. She manages to scramble her way upstairs, and stab him with scissors, but she's not in great shape. Elena and Stefan walk in as Alaric is coming down the stairs. He lies and says Meredith is at the hospital, but Elena sees the bloody knife on the floor. Stefan surprises him and chokes him out. The two of them head upstairs and find Meredith barely alive, the bathroom full of blood. Stefan holds off his hunger long enough to give her some of his blood, but then he needs to leave.

Alaric wakes up with no real memory of the night before. But, Damon is there playing vampire babysitter. He's going to stay with them for awhile so they can make sure he doesn't escape and kill anyone. Smart plan. Especially since we find out later that Samantha ended up killing herself, so probably for the best we keep eyes on him.

Sage helps Damon figure out what Rebekah is doing hanging around. After Damon seduced her, she's calm enough for Sage to get into her mind. But, instead of just telling Damon what she finds, she decides to show him. (I assume this is when she's able to get into his mind as well). After a bit of research, we find out that the tree was used to make the bridge, so we know how to kill the Originals now. But, Sage forbids him as she loves Finn. Damon agrees to leave Finn alone and just kill the others. However, in Damon's mind she saw they were all linked so she knows he's lying.

Damon heads over to the bridge and finds Rebekah burning all the wood. But, little do they know, the new sign (that Alaric hadn't yet picked up in the beginning) is also made of the wood, so Stefan and Damon have the weapon.

Bonnie's mom is not doing well with the transition. She's trying, but she eventually decides it will just be easier if she leaves. Caroline begs her not to leave Bonnie, but she does anyway. Poor Bonnie. She finally got her mom back, and now she's going to be alone again. Maybe she and Jamie will still keep in touch.

So, near the end of the episode, Elena calls Jeremy. I know she's concerned about the manifesto (?) that they found in Alaric's apartment that was meant for him, but how much about Mystic Falls does he actually remember? I can't remember exactly what Damon said to him. I know he's not supposed to want to come back, but does he know about vampires still? I don't know how much compulsion was used there.
