The Vampire Diaries 3X13: Bringing Out the Dead

Just a head's up: Dan called during this episode and I answered the phone. I thought something was wrong as we're not phone callers. Everything is fine. He just wanted to know what to get me from the drug store on the way home. But I do pause while I answer. I'm sorry!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Come on with this show.

So Bonnie and her mom are busy trying to open the casket. It's not really going well, but mostly because her mom isn't really trying.

Elijah and Damon meet to discuss what to do about Klaus. We don't get to see the end result that conversation, but Damon and Stefan do show up for dinner with Klaus and Elijah. And it's glorious. Elijah and Klaus talking about how they once loved the same woman. And Klaus making snide comments towards Damon and Stefan about their similar situation.

Eventually, Damon proposes that he gives back the missing coffin, and in return, Klaus leaves Mystic Falls forever and leaves the two of them, and Elena at peace. Klaus refuses because he needs Elena to make more hybrids. Instead, he suggests that both Stefan and Damon leave her alone (since they love her and should want what's best for her) and let her fall in love with a human, marry and have children.

One of the brothers (I forget which one) tells Klaus that he only wants that so every few hundred years, he can get another doppelgänger and make hybrids forever. Stefan decides he's finished with this, but Klaus grabs him and burns him in the fireplace. He tells Stefan to bring him the coffin or he kills Stefan. Then he sends Elijah with him.

After a very short period of time, they both return. Elijah revealing that they have pulled the daggers out of the rest of the siblings. Oh, I love it so much. They all rush in and stab Klaus with the daggers. Damon and Stefan leave during the commotion.

They head back to the tunnels to find both Bonnie and her mom unconscious and the casket empty.

Meanwhile, Caroline's dad has been stabbed and dies. But, as he had vampire blood in his system, rather than become a vampire, he chooses to refuse to feed and dies. Later, Elena comes home and finds Alaric stabbed as well. There isn't enough time to get him to a hospital, so Elena chooses to kill him since he's wearing his ring. (This is the first time I think I've really thought about the fact that a doppelgänger is a supernatural creature).

While they are waiting for Alaric to wake up, she calls Liz, who tells her that the only prints on the stake that was used to kill the ME are hers. And also that Meredith has an air tight alibi, so she can't be the culprit. So we're looking at someone who is targeting the counsel, but maybe also someone who has an issue with Elena? Who the hell is that? Seems like it would have to be a vampire. Who else would take issue with the counsel?

At the end of the episode, Klaus is still fighting with his siblings. He yells at them that he's the hybrid and cannot be killed. And they counter with, not until we get what's in the coffin. Which is when what's in the coffin is revealed. It's their mom. Klaus is petrified. He's sure she's there to kill him. (I guess as the original witch and his maker, she's the only one with that ability?) However, she surprises everyone by telling him she forgives him and wants them all to be a family again.

What does a family of original vampires and their original witch mother look like? Are they busy wreaking havoc? Or do they just go away and keep to themselves? Should we be concerned? At the very least, Rebekah is out to get Elena. I'm pretty sure Klaus will protect her at all costs, but still, he can't watch her all the time.
