Felicity 4X20: Spin the Bottle

This is getting ridiculous. We did all this for Noel to break up with Felicity because he thinks she'll never get over Ben? (I mean, he's probably right, but I feel like if she ended up with Ben, he'd think she'd never get over Noel. They are all way too enmeshed).

But seriously, Sean breaks up with Meghan so he can date Julie. But Julie doesn't want to date him, she wants to date Ben. And Ben seems to think that Felicity wants to get back together with him. So he keeps talking to her about how much she wants him. It's bizarre, but also, kind of fun to watch Ben like this.

Noel and Felicity plan to get an apartment together, but when Noel sees how shaken she is watching Ben and Julie kiss during a game of Spin the Bottle, he decides against it.

So basically, we've gone back in time and we've ended up with NEITHER Ben or Noel? I mean, I prefer it that way, but I assume by the end (I have no idea how they are going to explain this odd time travel) of the series, she's going to end up back with Ben.

Did any of you watch this is real time? What was the consensus of going back in time? Did people like this? I don't really.

I remember this when it aired and everyone hated the time travel episodes. This story only happened because the network asked for 5 additional episodes after the original finale which was 4x17. Everyone I know who watched tends to ignore these episodes and considers that episode the real ending.

Felicity never got closure with Noel after season 1 because she chose Ben, so maybe this little "time travel experience" did that for her and for the audience who were maybe invested in Felicity and Noel. To me, the theme here isn't "Ben or Noel?" That choice was made in season 1 (or really when she followed Ben to NY) and never really revisited. After Ben and Felicity got together in season 2 she was never still pining for Noel. Noel was doing the pining. Felicity had the perfect opportunity to choose Noel when she messed up with Ben in season 4 and they broke up. Nothing was really stopping her. (Which is why going back in time to this moment makes sense). But she only wanted to make things right with Ben and get him back. Getting together with Noel wasn't even an option for her. Noel confronting Felicity about never getting over Ben is valid considering she's never been able to. Noel has been waiting for her, waiting for Ben to fuck up, so he can have a chance. But at best he's the default. Felicity knows it. Noel knows it. Ben knows it (which is why I doubt he'd say the same thing as Noel and why he's a little cocky here.) Even back in time, knowing what happens in the future and trying to fully commit to Noel because of it, she can't turn off her feelings for Ben. "Whatever he did to make you break up with him wasn't enough."
