I truthfully, don't know if I liked this episode. It felt very heavy handed about social issues. Did this maybe come out shortly after a mass shooting? Now, that being said, most of my discussion veers off into that same topic, (and I mostly agree with what they were going for) but it still felt a little weird.
However, I did really love the Rene backstory. Although, you guys have to tell me what I messed up here. Rene is very much pro gun. Later, he claims it's because if he had a gun, he could have saved his wife. But he did have a gun. And he used it to kill the guy who killed her. Right? Is his argument that he shouldn't have to keep it locked up? Other than that, I have no idea what he's going for.
He and Curtis spend most of this episode going back and forth in a gun debate. And, by the end of the episode, it seems like they've ended up in a decent place. Curtis is going to help him get his daughter back.
So, we've got a 'random' guy who stormed into city hall and just gunned down everyone he could. It seem kind of like he was looking to cause more mayhem and destruction that violence though. Not that he seemed opposed to people dying. He just didn't really seem to have a concrete plan.
Eventually we find out his a guy whose family was killed in a mall shooting. But it doesn't even seem like he wants common sense gun laws (which is the theory we were operating under) he just knows everyone is miserable because life sucks and he wants to kill them so they don't have to feel pain anymore. Okay? I'm not sure I buy this. But, Oliver manages to disarm him and he ends up in custody.
Speaking of things I don't know if I like, we've got Dinah. I want to say I really like her, but it could just be that she's not Laurel. How do people feel about her? I'm really not sure if I'm just glad she's not someone else. Also, I know Dig is married, but I'm really feeling the chemistry between the two of them. I don't really want anything to happen between them, but I also wouldn't be upset if it did.
Oh, and Dinah is headed back to the SCPD. Which, I don't really feel much about at this point. But it's happening. I have no idea how these guys manage to hold down other jobs. Vigilante is a full time job on it's own.
