Stranger Things 4X7: Chapter Four: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab

Holy shit. We learned so much in this episode.

So, long story short (because it's late, and I'm exhausted), Joyce and Murray manage to break into the prison. But once inside, it's much more difficult to extract Hopper than they'd intended (I assume). Eventually though, they get to the control room and help them escape from the Demogorgon. Finally, Hopper and Joyce are reunited.

Somehow (I'm honestly still not sure how) the group in the Upsidedown managed to contact Dustin and Co. Dustin figured out a way to get them back to the actual world. Eddie and Robin make it, but Vecna possesses Nancy before she can get up safely. Steve tries to snap her out of it, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, Eleven is still trying to get her powers back, which means, she's trying to remember memories. It turns out, the massacre wasn't at her hand, but one of the orderlies (who was the original experiment and Victor Creel's son) who she was tricked into giving his powers back. the two of them fight at the end and El manages to send up into the Upsidedown. However, she ends up making him Vecna, so that's a problem.

Honestly, a lot more happened, and I enjoyed pretty much all of it, but because this episode was so long, it threw off my day, and I'm so ready for bed. ❤️

Agreed. This was such a good episode. And your recommendation of the next two makes me excited. I don't know if I should be vindicated or annoyed that I called out creepy orderly previously. I did not, at all, expect what we got from him. I thought it would be something way milder. So, like you said, super fun twist. Yeah, that kind of confused me too. I never thought Nancy was really at fault for what happened to Barb. I can go with the fact that she's got trauma so Vecna could posses her (anyone in this town could qualify). But I didn't see Barb as being one of the reasons. Ooh, I didn't pick up on the memory from El being opposite of what orderly told her to call on. Thank you! Dmitri=Misha=SPN. I will remember that for all time now. Thank you. I'm much better at remembering stuff when I read it versus hear it. Also, word association is my friend. 🤣 Also, big fan of those Lite Brite scenes. Not sure if it's because I really liked them or I was obsessed with people who had Lite Brite as a kid.

(1) This is one of my favorite episodes. The next two episodes are also some of my favorites so I'm excited for your next reactions as well. The twist near the end is top tier. I love Joyce and Hopper being reunited. Lucas/Dustin/Max/Erica's plot is hilarious especially the interrogation towards the beginning. I love that we got to see how Will communicated with Joyce with the lights in S1 by seeing Nancy/Steve/Eddie/Robin communicate with the lights. That whole scene is so aesthetically pleasing. Like the coloring is so pretty with the lights in the Upside Down and the Lite Brite in our world. (2) Nancy doesn't flip herself into the pool. In that moment Vecna takes possession of her brain and he flips her into the pool. Also as you mentioned at the end the person that Nancy sees in the pool is Barb, Nancy's friend from S1 who died. Vecna's trying to make her feel guilty about Barb's death. I'm sure that Vecna is picking up on the guilt that Nancy feels even though I've never felt it was her fault. Should she have left Barb alone in order to have sex with Steve? No but how was she supposed to know at that point that there was an inter dimensional monster out there killing people. (3) I think it's so cool how Vecna/Henry keeps telling El that in order to win in a fight she needs to think of something that makes her angry and that she needs to tap into her hate but when she fights him and defeats Vecna she imagines her mother telling her she loves her right after she's born. So it was love that pushed her/gave her the strength, not anger and hate. (4) An actress named Martie Blair played young Eleven in this episode and then they digitally replaced her face with Millie's in post production. Fun fact, Millie Bobby Brown directed Martie in those scenes. (5) Hopper's prison mate is named Dmitri Antonov. (6) The monologue does go on for awhile and some of it was him monologuing to El but he was also monologuing to Nancy and there is a reason for telling Nancy all that, that you will see in the next episode. (7) They actually just confirmed that Season 5 is going to come out in 2025. I don't know when but they're still filming and post production on a show like this takes quite some time it so I would guess sometime later in 2025. Possibly Sep or Oct.
