So, between last episode and this one, Katherine has decided that now she does want our of the tomb. She's hungry and bored. She wants Bonnie to figure out how to get her out and in exchange, will give up the moonstone and leave town and they'll never see her again. (I hope that part's not true).
They come up with a plan for Bonnie drop the spell just long enough for one of the brothers to run in, grab the moonstone, and get back during. During this time, they will throw some ashes on Katherine that will incapacitate her just long enough so she can't also escape. However, Elena does not want them to do this. She feels it's too risky. And that by getting the moonstone, Klaus will come here and kill everyone.
Instead, she comes up with a plan to sacrifice herself to Klaus, since she's the one he really wants. Then everyone else will be safe. So she tricks Rose into bringing her to see the dead friend to find out how to get in touch with Elijah, who can get them in touch in Klaus. Turns out, Elijah is looking for Elena as well, and he shows up while they are looking for him.
Meanwhile, while this is happening, once Rose realizes what is going on, she calls Damon, who shows up to stop her. Two of them argue about whether or not she is going to hand herself over. But Elijah just kills some people and leaves Elena there.
While this is going on, Jeremy is worried about Bonnie overworking herself with magic, so he steals some of the ash that knocks out Katherine, and decides to just go get the moonstone himself. However, it takes him longer than anticipated to find it, and Katherine wakes back up and starts biting him. He does manage to toss the moonstone out of the tomb though. But now that Katherine's eaten, she's strong enough to hold him captive in there.
Stefan shows up and runs in, tossing Jeremy out. But now he's stuck in there. But they've got the moonstone and Jeremy is alive, so small victories?
Caroline is working with Tyler to help him figure out what to do when he turns. He plans to chain himself up like Mason did. While inspecting the area, they find Mason's journal along with a video of him changing. It took hours and was incredibly painful, and now Tyler is super freaked.
At the end of the episode, we see Elijah talking to Dr. Witch and telling him that Damon and Stefan will do anything in their power in protect Elena, which is exactly what he wants. I assume he just want to make sure that nothing happens to her before he can break the curse. I mean, after Katherine went and turned herself into a vampire, I don't think he want to take any chances with Elena. But it totally could be something.
Also, as far as I can tell, Tyler is the only werewolf that we know of. And we need one to break the curse. I'm not entirely sure what his part is in all of this, but it would seem like he would need to be protected now as well. Doppelgängers and werewolves seem to be scarce in this universe.
I'm also not sure if Dr. Witch's son is on the side of the Originals, or if she's just following his dad's instructions blindly. His dad told him to bond with Bonnie, and he ends up being channeled by her while she tries to open the tomb door. (But even with the two of them, she's still not strong enough to do it- so I have no idea how the hell Stefan is getting out of there. Could set up for some fun Damon and Elena stuff though).
