One Tree Hill 7X14: Family Affair

Okay, so, you guys can probably guess that I didn't love this episode. It was way too focused on Taylor, who I just want to stab. I'm totally on Haley's side. Let's just take her out. Seriously.

But, I'd also like to say that I was wrong. When she showed up at the end of last episode, I was pissed because I thought we already had enough drama between Mille, Brooke and Julian, and Alex. But a lot of that stuff sort of got resolved this episode, so I reluctantly agree that the Taylor drama was needed. 🤣

Anyway, Taylor and David are determined to cook dinner for everyone. Haley is determined to make it as painful as possible for them. And, you guys, I LOVE petty Haley. (Although, to be fair, I love all the Haleys. I don't think there's a Haley I don't love. She's is hands down, my favorite character. I remember how much I loved her in S1. And she's changed and grown so much since then, but I still love her just as much). She tries to steal all the pots and pans (from her own kitchen), sets out plastic dishes, and generally tries to cause as much mayhem as possible. It's amazing.

It all culminates in dinner where Taylor talks about how great her sex life is with David. Finally, Haley has had enough, and asks David if he's trying to hurt Quinn. He responds, at least he waited until their divorce to have sex with someone else. This is when Quinn spills the beans, she and Clay haven't had sex yet. She lied to David so he would move on.

Later, all three sisters are arguing by the pool, and Haley loses it on Taylor and starts to fight her. Eventually, all of them end up in the pool attacking each other. After it's over, no one feels any better, and Haley forces Taylor to admit that she's a bitch (which she does), but it still doesn't seem like anything is resolved.

Meanwhile, Brooke and Julian are having a hard time time with their break up. They both obviously still love each other, but Alex is still in the way.

And, as much as I hate Alex, Julian was 100% right for punching that douchebag in the face and firing him. No matter how much I don't like someone, they don't deserve to be harassed and assaulted. Fuck that director.

Julian, ends up going to Brooke to ask her to be the costume designer. She initially tells him no, as she doesn't think she can be around him all the time. But, he asks her to think about it. Eventually, she comes to him and tells him she'll do it, if he directs the movie.

He goes to his dad to broach the subject, and it turns out, dad was on board before Julian was. I love this for them! I don't know how Brooke is gonna handle being in such close proximity to Julian and Alex, but that's a problem for another day. Hell, maybe it'll work to their advantage. Maybe it'll bring them closer together. 🤞

You know, actually, I think I changed my mind. Maybe I did actually like this episode. Lol.

OMG. That was the same girl? I never would have connected that. Thank you!

Kylie, the girl in Clay's pool is the girl from the body spray commercial in the beginning of the season who slept over Clay's house at the end of the night.

I like how you came to the conclusion that maybe you did like the episode, lol. I loved this episode. ❤️

I love this episode so much.... I can't tell you how many times I've watched it over the years, lol, it's that good and oh so funny, hehe. Plus, Paul (Dan Scott) directed it, and you can see his special touches all over it, especially with Naley and the James sisters. And yes...petty angry and pissed off Haley is totally one of my favorite Haley's, and she was so awesome here with her unapologetically hatred for all things Taylor and what she was doing, lol. And while Taylor can certainly be an annoyance, I don't mind her here because she's not being used as some cheap plot device for Naley angst like in S2, she's strictly here to further the sister's plot, which is a nice change of pace for Haley, and now Quinn in that regard. The dinner was hilarious though, hehe, and that whole dynamic with Naley, Clay, Quinn, David, and Taylor...I could watch all day long, it's that good. The chemistry between everybody is palpable and it's totally believable that they are all family. They did a good job setting up the closeness between Naley and David when he first got to town to try and win Quinn back, and so it makes complete sense here in his scenes with Naley respectively. And now you bring in all the James sisters with Taylor showing back up, and it's amazing casting with everybody. Quinn being in the mix now with Haley and Taylor completes the puzzle with the girls, and it works so well. Who doesn't love all the snarkiness that led up to the evening with Haley taking away all the posts and pans, the food, setting the table with paper plates, etc, it was all so damn good, hehe. Nathan trying to keep the peace beforehand and then eventually giving up midway was hilarious, lol, as him and Clay went off to the kitchen to take a break, and btw Nathan's one liner to Clay about adding sex to his contract was nicely played and so damn funny, lol. Then we have Nathan schooling Chuck on the basketball game and then Haley interrupting the boys so that she could persuade Nathan to talk with David....and his talk with his former brother-in-law was damn near perfect. Nathan has turned into such a grounded and reasonable stand-up guy who now dishes out such sage advice...I love it. All thanks to Haley....his evolution has been amazing!!!! Then we have the infamous pool fight between the sisters with the guys just standing there nursing their beers, enjoying the show, lol. Jamie and Chuck watching on was hilarious too, and yay for Jamie saying that he has $5 bucks on his mom, lol. It's all golden indeed. And then we get our sweet and sexy couple at the end, cuddled up in bed together by the fire lamenting their crazy day and Nathan putting things into perspective by talking about how the drama wasn't theirs and how he'll take a million days like today, and then he tells Haley that her family is crazy, and she says what time does Scott Free come on? lol They are just the best. Such a beautiful scene and shot courtesy of Paul, who loves and adores both James and Joy and Naley so much...they are his absolute favorites, and it shows, hehe. So yeah...a perfect episode in my book, hehe. Like I said, loved it all. Side note...the bloopers for this episode are hilarious, lol, especially James stuffing all the salad in his mouth and it hanging out like a walrus just to make Joy crack up who's sitting directly across from him at the other end of the table not able to contain herself, lol. They all had a blast filming this episode with Paul directing. The chemistry really shines through for everybody here :)

I think it really depends on what drives you as a OTH fan. I was never the biggest fan of Lucas and Peyton, especially as a couple and felt they were written terribly post high school, and I certainly didn't like the isolated disjointed mess the other characters suffered in order to prop them up and give them a happy ending in S6, so I don't quite feel their absence the same way that others might. I will say that starting with S7 and continuing through with the rest of the series, I very much enjoyed Naley and their orbit being front and center where they belong, and the concerted effort that was made to show a much more cohesive unit with the gang, and the overall writing. There are plenty of scenes and episodes that we get featuring everybody now that just wouldn't have been possible if nothing had changed with the cast and 7x14 is a prime example of that. I also love the maturity of the characters and their stories now, as opposed to a lot of the cheap drama that was written prior. The show definitely moved away from the teen drama it started out as, and I think the choices that were made post S6 were the correct ones for the viability of the series.

I love this episode. Admittedly I do hate Taylor but this is a prime Haley episode. That's something I love about season 7. With Lucas and Peyton gone, we get more Nathan and Haley together and respectively. Haley gets more funny or juicier dramatic plotlines. Angry Haley is hilarious in this episode and honestly a total mood 🤣

Is it just me or this show isn’t the same without Lucas and Peyton. Like yeah I love Quinn and Clay and Nathan and Haley but idk
