Felicity 4X8: The Last Thanksgiving

So, we've got what will probably be the last Thanksgiving, as we all graduate (or move on to med school or whatever) at the end of this season. While, no one had any plans, Sean shows up with groceries the day before and announces he's cooking. Meanwhile, Meghan is convinced that the potion she's making will get Ben and Felicity back together. Then Meghan realizes that their oven is broken so they need to host at Felicity and Elena's place. Which puts Ben and Felicity in the same space. Ben decides just to go to the hospital to see his dad.

However, when he gets to the hospital, he runs into Lauren who has no where to go and they decide to crash Thanksgiving. It's not going horribly (I mean it's not great either though), until Ben finally loses his cool and tells Felicity that he wishes he hadn't have wasted the last year and half of his life with her. And he and Lauren leave. Meghan is bummed that her potion didn't work.

After they leave, Lauren tells him that he should go back and talk to her. He does. He apologizes and tells her that he only brought Lauren to hurt her because Felicity hurt him. Then, they end up having sex. However, in the middle (ish) of the night, Ben leaves. Felicity tells him he can stay, but he says this was a mistake and it shouldn't have happened. But then says he'll call her. I'm confused. But I feel like Ben probably is too.

In other news, Noel's brother is in town and they decide to have dinner together. But after Noel tells him about the situation with Felicity, he feels like he's being judged, and leaves to go to a bar. He picks up a girl who brings her to a hotel room. She handcuffs him to the bed, robs him, and leaves him there. Eventually his brother comes to rescue him. And tells him it might be time to talk to someone, and he asks for a referral.

I have no idea if Ben and Felicity are together right now. I feel like, no?

Oh, and Javier left Samuel!

I did feel that Felicity loved Noel, but not in the same way she loved Ben, so for her it wasn't a dilemma. As long as Ben was an option she would always choose him. If Ben decides what she did was unforgivable and removes himself from the picture I can see Felicity settling with Noel and being somewhat happy. On paper Felicity and Noel seem more compatible, especially since he's not covered in issues like Ben, but she can't help who she loves. Everyone knows Ben is her first choice. The man who she wants to be with. Even Noel. It feels like he's just waiting around until he's the only option or hoping Felicity realizes he is a better option than Ben.

Felicity, Ben and Noel. For me it isn't a choice of who Felicity loves more or wants to be with. She made that decision when she followed Ben across the country. It's always been Ben. It is more about if she made the right decision in choosing Ben over Noel. Ben is hard. Noel is easy. When Ben is being particularly complicated in swoops Noel to remind her that it doesn't have to be so hard. Noel could be so much easier. I love the complexity of Felicity and Ben's relationship. Neither one is perfect, but they love each other and despite the messiness of it, this storyline shows how much. Love ain't always easy. Noel's feelings are obv, he's never hidden them. She could easily be with him now, especially after what she did. But it turns out she doesn't want easy. I like that Felicity is embracing the hard. If she wants Ben back she knows it won't be easy. He has every right to act and feel like he is right now. As for Ben, I like that he can't just cut her off or just hurt her like she's hurt him. You can't just turn off love. He has conflicting emotions about the whole thing. Love ain't always easy.
