Outlander 6X6: The World Turned Upside Down

Oh, god. This episode. So, it feels like half the Ridge ended up getting dysentery and a lot of people died as a result. Right at the end of the epidemic, Claire gets sick. She's in and out of consciousness for a week. She had hallucinations and a high fever. Along with other issues. Eventually, she comes around and starts to feel a bit better. She also realizes what she had wasn't dysentery, but some sort of virus. And apparently, Christie had the same thing. She's trying to figure out how they could both get the same illness if they weren't in contact.

Anyway, just as she's finally on the mend, and Jamie is heading out to meet with the delegates, Christie shows up. He's brought Malva along, who drops the bombshell that she's pregnant, and that Jamie is the father. She's telling Claire she's sorry and they didn't mean to hurt her. Jamie is hella confused at first. But then, Claire slaps Malva and leaves. Eventually, Jamie catches up to her, and they talk it out. She doesn't believe that he would that. However, Jamie is concerned because this rumor is going to spread like wildfire. Claire tells him no one will believe it, but he responds with 'Everyone will.' And they do.

Jamie leaves and while he's away, everyone shuns Claire. No one associates with her at all except Roger and Brianna. Claire tries to go talk to Malva to make amends, but Malva doubles down. Now she's also insisting that Claire is a witch. Claire eventually tells he to stay away from her family and leaves.

Now, while all this is going on, Claire is occasionally hallucinating about Lionel. Eventually, it gets bad enough that she gets some either to calm herself down. However, while she's under (or maybe after she's just woken up, it's unclear) Malva shows up (or is a hallucination, again, it's unclear) threatening to steal Jamie and all this property and basically single white female Claire's life. Claire holds a scalpel up to her neck and tells her if she ever comes near her family again, she's kill her.

Shortly after, Claire wakes up from the ether and the wanders outside to pick some herbs. However, she glances behind her and sees Malva dead from a slash to her neck. She hurries over and cuts the baby out of her, but it's dead as well.

So here's the thing. I have no idea if this actually happened or if this was another hallucination from Claire. I really hope it did happen because it makes for a better story. But also, I don't want Claire to be responsible for killing someone and not even realizing she did it. She's got enough things she's currently trying to suppress, she doesn't need more.
