Stranger Things 3X5: Chapter Five: The Flayed
Added 2024-08-28 23:52:39 +0000 UTCOkay, so Hopper and Joyce find a Russian scientist (?) in the basement of a house. But then, the motorcycle guy who attacked him (who we'll call Terminator) previously shows up. Hopper and Joyce manage to take the scientist as a hostage, as they trap the Terminator in the basement by putting heavy things on the door.
They then stumble through the woods trying to find someone who can speak Russian, and they happen upon a 7-1-1 where Hopper commandeers a guy's car. They take Russian guy to the dude who helped out Nancy and Jonathan in the past.
Meanwhile, Nancy calls Jonathan asking to speak to Will as she's concerned the Mrs. Driscoll is possessed by the Mind Flayer. That brings everyone together and they sort of figure out what's happened to Heather and her parents. They extrapolate that this must mean there are more victims.
They decide to go to the hospital and follow Mrs. Driscoll home to find out where everyone who is possessed is staying. However, possessed Tom and other guy from the newspaper know they are coming. They attack them and Nancy and Jonathan are forced to fight for their lives. They win, but I'm not sure if this is a satisfying victory, as the dead guys congeal together to form a Mind Flayer (I think?)
While this is happening, Dustin and Co. figure out they are in some kind of Russian army lab. Steve (somehow) manages to take down a Russian solider, and they are all privy to seeing what the green stuff is used for. It's powering some kind of machinery that re-opening the gate to the Upside Down. Fun.

The little girl (Lucas's sister) who's with Steve, Dustin, and Robin is named Erica. A lot of characters in this show so I get why they don't all come to mind :). Hopper's methods to get a car may be controversial but it's so fuckin funny! The way he says that Alexei is this dangerous criminal and then it pans over to Alexei looking like a perfect little angel while sippin his slushie lol. It's one of my favorite scenes in this episode... that and the scene where Steve wins a fight for the first time :). The Mind Flayer/Shadow Monster is the same thing as the monster we see at the end of this episode. It's the Mind Flayer taking on a slightly different form.
