Chapter 229- Terms of Contract

Arthur nursed his throat. The wound that had been troubling him for so long, delivered by a corpse puppet, was finally gone, and it felt strange finally touching unmarked flesh after so long. Following his interrogation, Arthur had been brought to humanity's last remaining stronghold with the help of a dimensional mage. It was a massive city, capable of housing hundreds of thousands, situated in a basin surrounded by towering mountains. While Arthur wasn’t sure exactly where they were, the ...

Chapter 228- Coming Clean

A/N- First and foremost, I apologise for not posting any updates on Patreon or RR about when releases would return to normal. i won't apologise for not writing, because life made sure that was out of my control over the last month, but a quick update— a single sentence even— probably would have been welcome. I wasn't going to release anything until next week, but a comment over on RR, left on chapter 219, just got me in the mood to do some writing, so here we are.

Chapter 227- Broken Puppet of Heaven

Arthur stared at Vira, taking in the positions of everyone around him. He was perfectly surrounded, with no avenue of escape, not that he could attempt it right now anyway, with the state of his body. The naked hostility in everyone's eyes was clear as day, and he could tell they were itching for violence. Maverick, unfortunately, seemed to be drifting in and out of consciousness, so there was no help coming from there.

Wovan, of course, chose that exact moment to teleport tw...

Chapter 226- An Ancient Healer

Wovan's teleport was far more stable than anything Arthur had experienced before, though with the current condition of his body, he was still left reeling and dizzy from the sensation. Sprawling to his side, Arthur hacked up a piece of flesh he didn't try to identify and vomited the contents of his stomach onto the ground. Arthur rolled onto his back and stared at the fiery Haadran sky.

His body was a mess, more damaged than it had ever been before; his skin cracked and shattered like g...

Chapter 225- Linked Pain

AN- I apologise for not posting in a while. My life's gone through a little upheaval over the past few weeks and I've had little to no time for my writing. The good news however, is that because of said changes in my life, I now have far more time on my hands to dedicate to my writing, which you'll hopefully be seeing the effects of in the coming months. Once again, I truly am sorry for my extended absence and especially so for not posting an update about it here.

Chapter 224- Master of Storms

Travelling through shadows was always a strange experience. Even though it was near instantaneous, Arthur always experienced a slight delay while in the shadow realm. As heightened as his senses were right now with his elevated stats, that delay felt even longer. Arthur saw more. For the first time, he was able to see the shadow realm in greater detail—a place of darkness and silence, and at the edge of his vision, twisting masses of pitch black that seemed almost alive.

Before he cou...

Chapter 223- Old Enemies

Apologies for the chapter delay. I've been finalising edits for Etherious: Originator, which will be released a few hour after you read this chapter. Please check it out and advertise it wherever you can. Word of mouth goes a long way.

Chapter 222- The Principle of Permanence

Arthur placed his inscriber on the blackboard. The tool was made from some kind of metal and incredibly cold to touch, well below freezing if he wasn’t mistaken. Temperatures were hard to judge these days. It was also incredibly light, weighing about as much as an ordinary ballpoint pen. Arthur looked at Cyprus and then the rune he’d drawn. The old elf smiled at him, seemingly content to watch him work.

Arthur glared suspiciously at the rune and then the apparently innocent el...

Chapter 221- An Introductory Lesson

Arthur was hit by a wave of nostalgia as he looked down at his desk. It had been recreated from his memories in perfect detail and he lost himself looking at the doodles before him. Swallowing thickly, he turned his attention back to Cyprus, who seemed content to wait for however long it took Arthur to get his bearings.

Arthur moved his desk to the front of the classroom. The only other change had come from Cyprus’ side. He’d switched out the projector for what Arthur could only des...

Announcement at chapter end->

Rosano walked through the scorching desert, trailing his wayward partner. Mysha had taken him on a wild goose chase and Rosano had long ago learned there was no point arguing with her when she got like this. His best friend was insane, her mind broken beyond all shadow of a doubt, but he’d learned to trust her minor bouts of lucidity. It was why he’d followed her to Manchester and infiltrated the Agroth residence on her whim. Now he was...

Chapter 219- Eternal Weave

With her guardian knight gone, Arthur dealt with Maya in less than twenty seconds. Isaiah had been carrying heavily in that fight and with him out of the picture, Maya quickly followed. Arthur spent the next few minutes going through the corpses of all his slain enemies, searching for loot. He'd yet to find a single monster core in all the deepstone gremlins he'd killed and he was beginning to think the creatures just didn't form them.

From the two dozen other monsters he'd killed, he o...

Chapter 218- Lessons From The Dead

With the Magma Serpent dead, most of the waiting predators slunk away and returned to their territories. Not all of them, though, and Arthur was forced to spend the next twenty minutes battling an increasingly bizarre series of monsters. Wovan was returned to his soul core to recover—while she was a force to be reckoned with, this wasn’t the carefully selected battle her first fight had been. The only purpose she’d serve here would be soaking up damage, and Arthur doubted he’d ever ne...

Chapter 217- The Eternal Weaver

Wovan began the battle without delay. Her two revived bodies teleported down to land on the Magma Serpent's back, right on the spot where a falling boulder had cracked its scales. The spiders immediately attacked the weakened area, using their legs to pry the cracked scales away and expose the pale flesh beneath. Wovan had a pitiful strength stat, but she made up for it by using telekinesis to reinforce her movements.

Chapter 216- First Test

A significant portion of Arthur’s powers came from the numerous titles he had to his name. He wouldn’t be mistaken in saying that it was the cornerstone upon which his build was crafted, the only reason why it was viable. Titles truly were what separated the extraordinary from the mundane. With Wovan able to gain her own, Arthur had already decided he’d do whatever he could to ensure she was set up for success. Arthur sincerely doubted the other Enders had actively pursued gaining multi...

Chapter 215- New Skills

It took all of ten minutes to explain to the little avatar why giving away ownership of the planet was a very bad idea. Their visitor outside seemed content to wait and Iris wasn’t in a hurry to meet them either. This was far too important to rush, anyway. The fate of the world quite literally hung in the balance.

In the end, with Alyssia’s help, she’d finally managed a secure promise from Gaia that she would ask them first before giving the planet to anyone, no matter how n...

Chapter 214- Gaia

Scotland, Iris had to admit, was a very beautiful place. It was a shame, then, that her first time visiting the country had to be marred by such horrible memories. Finding the Fell humans had been incredibly easy; she could track Arthur’s blood from three galaxies away. Taking them out had been even easier, and with Alyssia assisting her, it was impossible for anyone to run away.

The battle, if it could even be called that, had been cathartic, and she’d worked through some of ...

Chapter 213- The Daggerfall Mountains

The moment Arthur's foot hit hard rock, he almost jumped for joy. The perfect Homunculus, he decided, was a species that didn’t get along well with sand. Raising his hand, he touched the bandage wrapped around his neck. He still hadn’t managed to heal the damage the Corpse Eater had dealt him, but his efforts had at least prevented him from bleeding so profusely.

Now he was losing a drop or two every five minutes, annoying but manageable. The oppressive heat constantly hammeri...

Chapter 212- First Day In Haadran

Arthur stood in front of the warp gate. It was one of seven situated in the Agroth’s basement and led directly to Haadran. Although the warp gate prevented hostiles from crossing over, it didn’t stop the extreme heat from passing through. The temperature was beyond anything that could occur naturally on Earth, the type of heat that would kill an unclassed human inside of six hours.

Arthur had made a few more preparations. He now had a cycrogylic crystal that would lower the am...

Chapter 211- Familiar Faces

The last time Arthur had set foot in Manchester, he’d been seven years old. It had been thirteen years since then, and the place hadn’t changed a bit. He still hated the place. It was like someone had taken everything dull and dystopian about city life and made an altar to it. That was how he'd describe Manchester.

Arthur was being biased. He knew that. He didn’t hate the place so much as the people he associated with it, his mother's side of the family. They were as traditi...

Chapter 210- A Layered trick

Solana's question lingered in the air. Why had she had to kill him?

Arthur stared at the small mist construct and considered her question. “No, I think I've figured it out,” he eventually replied. “It’s about Wovan, isn’t it?”

“Correct,” Solana jumped down from her perch on the flask and began pacing around. “I don’t think you understand the gravity of what you created. Within the entirety of this tier 4 realm of ours, we know of only thirteen Ender cl...

Chapter 209- A Terrifying Threat

The moment Solana's fist touched Arthur Ward, powerful figures began to move. Lady Selyca was one of them. She’d had her eye trained on the trio for a while, but when Giants Bane attacked, she was too slow to react. Everyone was. Cursing up a storm, she called her teleportation mages and prepared for the worst. The fallout from this would be huge. An Originator had just died under her watch, and it was against a foe he had no right even interacting with.

Chapter 206- Loot

The bounty hunters were naturally taken aback by Arthur's brutal attack; some looked away and a few looked like they were about to puke. Arthur didn’t blame them. What he’d just displayed wasn’t standard battle practice, it was savage violence, pure and simple. When boiled down to its core concept, that was what true combat was, not an art form but the desire to kill your foe by whatever means necessary. And if his savagery unsettled his foes…. well, that was just the cherry on top.&n...

Chapter 205- Dirty Fighting

The first thing Arthur did was recall Wovan, something he’d learned was possible the moment his Soul Splinter was fully formed. The ten deadly spiders flashed red before disappearing, returning to his soul core, the place where his soul splinter would now live, it seemed. Arthur was dying to test his new minion in battle and take a deeper look at her abilities but pitting her against a group of powerful bounty hunters all beyond level 200 when she’d only just been born was perhaps a littl...

Chapter 204- Ender's Birth

In a field of grass and rolling hills, somewhere in the North of England, the universe bore witness to the birth of Wovan, The Hivemind Construct. The monster's core had become an egg of sorts, swelling to the size of a large bathtub before shrinking into the proportions of a small beach ball. The red light it had been emitting for the last few minutes finally grew dim before winking out entirely.

Arthur could sense a nascent conscience forming within the egg, pitifully weak in power an...

Chapter 203- Something New

Sorry for the delay everyone. I was dealing with a number of irl issues, primarily amongst them some terrible back pain that prevented me from doing day to day tasks. Things have improved slightly on that end, but I don't know how long the recovery process will be. That being said, releases should be returning to their usual 2 chapters a week. No promises, but that number may be rising to 3 chapters a week depending on how things progress. I apologise for not informing you readers of these ch...

Chapter 202- Dimension Holder

Arthur would have loved to see the rest of the battle unfold. He was sure Alyssia was about to deliver a performance for the ages. Unfortunately, he had more pressing matters to worry about. Namely, the fact that reality itself was breaking down around him.

Besides his class pinnacle skill, The Homunculus Hunts, Arthur only had one more ability that interacted with auras, the unique rare-ranked skill he'd created under Alyssia's tutelage in the Locus of Power. W...

Chapter 201- Fear The Shadow

The ritual started innocently enough. Once Arthur had everything in place, he stood at the edge of his blood painting. He crouched and double and triple-checked if he was in the right position. Finally, when he realised all he was doing was delaying, Arthur sat down cross-legged on the hard wooden floor. It wasn’t the most comfortable position, but it was necessary. Putting a cushion down could risk destabilising things; a very small risk, yes, but it was an easily avoidable one.

Chapter 200- Walk Away and Live

Sorry for the chapter delay this past week and a half. As you most probably know, Book 3 of Etherious was just released and I've been busy caught up in all the work that goes into making sure a book's launch is as successful as possible. Suffice to say, I've had very little time for writing. That being said, things will be going back to there normal 2 chapters a week schedule next week. The days of release, as normal, will be randomised, but most probably will be Tuesdays and Thursdays.
