Okay, so I really thought this season was gonna go in a different way based on the first 15 or 20 minutes. And I'm so glad it didn't. I was concerned we were gonna end up with Jamie and Claire in different time periods again. But it was just to establish the relationship between Jamie and Christie.
That said, Jamie so does not want him here, but is trying to be hospitable. However, Christie is trying to take over and change things to his liking. At the end of the episode, Jamie tries to lay down the law, but I don't have high hopes he'll abide. But his son is accused of stealing from the Browns (yes, those Browns), and he confesses. Jamie convinces them to let him handle it, and while it seems like he doesn't want to go with physical punishment, he ends up hitting the boy with his belt anyway. I don't like it. And his daughter is just chock full of questions. I feel she's going to be a problem in the future.
Meanwhile, Fergus is drunk all the time. He's not helping with anything, leaving Marsali to take care of everything herself. Not to mention he's embarrassing her (and maybe hurting her?- I really don't want this to be true).
Some British soldier guy shows up wanting Jamie to head up some sort of peace thing (maybe?) with the Indians. Jamie initially declines, but when he sees the the person next in line is Brown, he takes the job to keep him from getting it. I hate this. I'm afraid this means Jamie and Claire are gonna be apart a lot this season.
In other news, Claire has created (is that the best term here?) ether for surgeries. However, she's having trouble sleeping because she haunted with nightmares of what happened to her. So now, she's sneaking down to the surgery in the middle of the night to ply herself with ether to have dreamless sleep. I don't know the long term (or short, actually) effects of this, but I know it's not good.
