Okay, so, this was an action packed season finale. I liked so much about it. I think this was probably the best episode so far.
We've got Eleven showing back up. Her reunion with Mike was delightful. And her non-introduction to Max was fun.
But onto the real story. We've got three different stories running simultaneously here. And all of them are dependent on each other. Joyce, Nancy and Jonathan take Will to Hopper's cabin in the hopes of burning the cloud, spider monster out of him. It turns out that it works, but not without considerable pain to Will and a concerted effort by everyone. Eventually, Nancy stabs Will with a hot poker while he's choking Joyce, and that seems to do the trick.
Back at the Byer's house, the rest of the kids who are being watched by Steve, devise a plan to enter the tunnels, and lure the Demo dogs to them, so they stay away from El while she trying to close the gate. Eventually, they run into Dart, who happily eats Dustin's 3 Musketeers bar and lets the group pass unharmed.
While this is happening, Hopper and Joyce had to the lab so she can close the gate. However, this thing is huge. And it's taking forever. She eventually manages to tap into her anger, like Kali taught her and she's up floating in the air and using more energy than it seems she has. While she's doing this, the Demo dogs are attacking and Hopper is fighting them off for her. After a while, she finally manages to close it. And she basically collapses into Hopper arms.
And then we get a nice little wrap up at the end. The scientist has managed to get Hopper a birth certificate for El with the name Jane Hopper. And all the kids go to the Middle School Dance. Max and Lucas dance, El and Mike dance. Poor Dustin asks a bunch of girls and they all turn him down, so Nancy dances with him. It's a nice ending for these kids who finally have a chance just to be normal kids for a night.
However, at the end, we see the cloud, spider monster in The Upside Down, so we're already gearing up for S3.
