Friday Night Lights 3X11: A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall

We knew J.D.'s dad was leading us here, and I was still sort of surprised when it happened. I expected a ton of yelling and screaming (which we got), but I wasn't really expecting this. Thankfully, he was stupid enough to do it in the parking lot of the restaurant where practically the entire town was, so Eric and Tami were able to come out and break it up. Remember back when I wondered if J.D. even liked football at all? I'm starting to come back around to that question. Is it doing it because he wants to, or because his dad wants him to?

Lorraine is getting worse again. She got out of a moving car because she forgot her purse inside. I really thought that scene was going a different way. I thought it was gonna be with Matt's mom telling her she doesn't need her purse and she would pay for everything and it would be a bit of a bonding moment. I guess not. Now we're back in this situation where Matt is trying to figure out what to do with her when (if?- he didn't really seem to have a plan yet) he goes to college.

I looked it up. Vanderbilt is in Tennessee. Either way, Lyla's in! But she's still upset at Buddy because she won't be able to pay for it. But still, the acceptance rate at Vanderbilt is fairly small. Maybe she actually can get some kind of scholarship. I honestly didn't realize this school was so difficult to get into.

How do we feel about Landry getting roped into helping Tyra set up the bridal shower for Mindy? I feel like it too soon after they had this conversation about her being The Giving Tree. I know they throw in that line about her getting him a regular gig for his band, but it still seem uneven. Either way, they both seem happy.

Also, I really didn't know how badly I needed a scene like that between Tyra and her mom. She's been so happy about Mindy and sort of lamenting that Tyra isn't going that route, that her saying how proud she is of her and how she's going to get everything she wants was really touching. (I'm not actually sure it was earned, but I enjoyed it nonetheless).
