VIDEO: Milk is a Lie

Got milk? We do….so much milk in this story. In this video we’re taking a deep dive into the world of dairy and why most of it is a lie.

- Johnny

"Johnny came to me with this story idea and I was not prepared to fall this deep into a milk research hole. There is so much research out there and documented archive to search through, it was a dream. I became super invested in the government cheese and pop culture aspect of this story, and probably spent way too much time finding songs and movie quotes where they talk about it. This quote from the movie “Friday” might be my favorite."

There is definitely some parallels to the vaccine. Especially when it comes to media companies getting 70% of there revenue from big Pharma.

Cold War Army Brat here. I like your work, and am so happy to support it (thanks!), but it's sort of funny to see someone young look at the 20th century American project with something like alarm. I wasn't forced into milk, it was just always sort of there. You'd toss the half-drank little cafeteria milk box into the trash and go back to class. Nobody, though, drank just, like, water. Water. It was the supermodels in the 90s that brought Evian to the fore. My whole life, "water" as a drink was nothing until then. We also weren't good at washing our hands but, you know. Also I'm very boring (no socials), but doesn't this video kind of open a discussion about what "the government" was doing with vaccine propaganda? We have milk/shots, we have a captive audience.... I dunno.

Will we get a script from this masterpiece? <3

I would love to see you do a deep dive into where the Dietary Guidelines came from. I was at the Public comments here in DC in July 2019. I found the whole thing fascinating. So many lobbyists were there, but there was a growing contingent of Doctors complaining about the state of the science behind the dietary guidelines. In particular, numerous doctors were concerned about the lack of research into the low-carb diet. The state of nutrition science is about as bad as the research into Milk. If you get a chance, look up a scientific paper on nutrition and actually read it. There are a lot of observational studies with very weak correlations that are touted as proof of some dietary claims. They love a flashy headline that gets the talking heads on TV to talk about the research. Still, nobody actually reads the studies or talks about the special interest involved with the studies or when the study is retracted a few months later.

This is exactly what I thought was missing from this video. Its a huge part of what makes the dairy and cattle industries what they are.

Hi Johnny, fantastic video as always! This got me thinking since you briefly mentioned the food pyramid. I recall reading about how the food pyramid is another tool that was fabricated to an extent by the advertising industry in order to support the food products they wanted/needed to sell (much like the milk campaigns). In fact, if you google some posters of the food pyramid (or see them, like the one I've seen at my doctor's office), you'll see brand logos like Kellogs conveniently displayed in the corner. I'm from Australia but much like America, a lot of what we understand about diet and nutrition is similarly baked into our culture, and it's definitely worth the investigation. P.S. I myself am a journalist and am a huge supporter of your work.

To add to this, it definitely feels like you were teetering on it. Many points you guys brought up felt like they could be transitioned into this, but it never went there. I think it's a great and informative video, but I definitely think it could've gone that step farther

Jason

I think this video misses a couple key points about the darker side of the dairy and cattle industry, and what they lobby to protect: abuse of animals, the environmental impact and scale of raising cattle, how much land and resources that uses, and hiding the negative health effects that may come from drinking what is another animals milk. I know you touched briefly on the last one but it's definitely part of what motivates these industries to do what they do

Jason

That and the fact that there were no mention of animal exploitation. How can dairy be ''cool'' when it cannot exist without exploiting millions of living beings that can experience suffering & emotions. I grew up on a dairy farm and took care of cows. They are way more complex than we tend to give them credit for.

Such a great video! Was wondering if there were any intentions on discussing alternative milk products in this video and if so why'd they end up on the editing chopping block. Were you motivated to keep the piece solely focused on the government's hand in the dairy industry?
