Escalator dangers

You'd been making a point of getting over this so called irrational fear, after your therapist suggested trying out "exposure therapy", so over the past few months, you took the escalator instead of the stairs ...
To your utmost dismay however, after being sent home from work because you were one of the few employees who'd been in contact with the chemical leak at work, you began to see the entire hallway become a lot bigger, in fact, you were shrinking ... a fact you came to finally realize when you came up to the escalator for your daily exposure to it.
However at your current size you were seriously apprehending the experience, seeing as now you were more than likely to get killed by the infernal machine you always believed it to be.
Pondering over weather or not you would take a step forward and take it, you quickly came to the conclusion that there was actually no other way but to take it.
However, it was quickly approaching rush hour, and the next trains were arriving at the station as you were ascending.
Turning back for a second, you saw the mass of people behind you, as well as the massive sole of a cute woman, who clearly did not see you.
As it turns out, it wasn't even going to be the escalator that would be your undoing, but the sole of a woman's shoe ...
