The Faces I Desire - Process

Hmmmn....whodathunk that drawing an image featuring 23 individual masks would have taken longer than I'd expected...?

So here's the process breakdown - as ever, working from the background forwards, I chose to bring up the rendering on the masks in passes so that I wouldn't end up sinking too much time/detail on any given one.

Rendering our heroine in the foreground was a straightforward process, and as  you can see in the difference in the two final images I decided to tint the secondary light in green and throw in some adjustments and subtle textures to bring the piece together.

Thanks R.O.M.! I'm glad you're enjoying seeing the process here - sometimes those last-minute tweaks and additions can pull the painting together and/or bring out something new. I was a little hesitant to go with just white light in the whole scene so threw in the kick light and played around with values until I settled on a colour that seemed to work for me. For some reason, the green worked better than my initial assumption of a red light. But that's the fun of digital work - as much as you can plan and work through the process it enables experimentation all the way to the end.

Actually, I even more like the previous to final version - the one without green glowing shadow. But regardless this green glow is what shows how good you are as an artist!
