Healer Book 4 -- Chapter 37

After scrolling through the literal thousands of “monster slain” messages, which included all of the Skeletal Fighters, Skeletal Archers, and Skeletal Breakers that had melted in front of his and Sadia’s advance through the horde, he noticed that he had, indeed, received PICK from them – and it was more than expected, especially for them being the “cannon fodder”, as the squirrel had referred to them as.

You have received: 270 PICK!
It wasn’t a lot of PICK for each one, but when 10 PICK or so was run through ringer of his bonuses, 270 PICK was a lot for such a simple monster. And “simple monster” was correct, as he could tell that it was weak even for an original Level 180 undead, so getting 10 PICK was actually generous.
The thing was, as they tore through the horde, nearly 10,000 of these simple monsters were killed in their objective of hunting down and killing the Horde Leaders and the Horde Chief, giving him somewhere around 2.7 million PICK. The horde’s leadership added another chunk of PICK to him, a little bit more than the weaker monsters, if only because of their quality in comparison. It made him excited to go back in the future and solo it again, thinking of sitting in the middle of the horde to farm them for a few hours, collecting tens of millions of PICK in the process.
That was, of course, if he could even hold that much in reserve; even now, he was feeling a slight bit of strain from the PICK already in his body, and he didn’t want to run into the same situation as before when he basically hit his limit and overflowed, pushing him all the way to Level 189.
Moving on to the rest of the notifications, he looked through them as he continued to fly back to the city.

It was a lot to unpack. The long and the short of it all was that he obtained a total of 9.2 million PICK from the monsters he slew and the Achievement rewards, bringing him to nearly 14 million in reserve – which was probably why he was feeling a bit of the strain of holding so much inside and not using it. It wasn’t as bad as he remembered it could get, but he figured he probably had until he reached 20 million PICK or so before he had to worry.
As for gold, he obtained a total of 3 million gold for the entire run and Achievements. He also obtained 9 spell selections (for a total of 31 in reserve), a +45% increase to his existing Physical and Magical Resistance from his equipment, 12 Access Slots (for a total of 62), had a new Psychic Resiliency Advancement to choose from, +250 to all of his stats, and he now had 2,125 free stat points to distribute wherever he wanted. If that wasn’t enough, there were situational bonuses to his Raid Party when in a dungeon with fewer members than the maximum allowed, and if his Party was outnumbered.
All-in-all, it was an incredible amount of rewards from the dungeon – and he couldn’t wait to do it again. Now, as he neared Darkwood Vale, the 6-hour timeline until the Raid Party was ready to go now seemed like entirely too much time.
When he finally set down outside of the city in the designated Guilded Glory meeting spot, he took out his chair and sat down, before opening his selections for his new Psychic Resiliency Competency Advancement. While he hadn’t necessarily liked that it came from an experience where he had been paralyzed by the scream of a Banshee, he was pleased that at least he got another Advancement out of it.
Please select (1) Advancement for your Psychic Resiliency Competency:
Tethered Tease – All psychic abilities and effects attempting to influence you are reflected toward the psychic user at 50% strength
Polyamory – All psychic abilities and effects attempting to influence you are also shared with all targets within 30 feet of your location
Forced Abstinence – All psychic abilities and effects upon you are completely nullified, including those that originate from you
Size Matters – Psychic abilities and effects attempting to influence you from sources 50 Levels or above your own are completely nullified; psychic abilities and effects attempting to influence you from sources 50 Levels or below your own are tripled in effectiveness
Euphoric Auras – All auras you activate have an additional component of euphoric bliss, blunting the effectiveness of psychic abilities and effects attempting to influence every target within that aura’s range, immediately reducing the impact of psychic abilities and effects by 30%, while also gradually reducing its severity by 69%
While the new Euphoric Aura Advancement added to the list was interesting, he didn’t believe he used Auras enough to make it worthwhile. Looking at the older selections, he disregarded Forced Abstinence, as he didn’t want any psychic abilities he currently used or might use in the future to be completely nullified, and Polyamory was too dangerous if he was in a party, so he eliminated that as well. It was then down to Tethered Tease and Size Matters; the latter was tempting because it would make anything 50 Levels or above him unable to psychically influence him, which would’ve made it so that the Screaming Banshee’s scream would’ve been completely ineffective against him. The downside was the potential that a lower-Level source would be able to hit him with triple the effectiveness of their psychic ability, which could be dangerous; just thinking about someone like Muriel, and how much damage she could do if she was 50 Levels under him, made it a risky Advancement.
But Tethered Tease was something that would only reflect psychic attacks with 50% of its strength; while that might be beneficial in some instances, there was also a possibility that it would do nothing, because it was entirely possible that those who used such attacks were highly resistant to the same type of attack, if not immune.
“It’s not likely that you’re going to run into many individuals or monsters that are 50 Levels below you nowadays that are intent on hurting you, especially as your Visible Charisma will boost their Perceived Level, which would affect this requirement. Size Matters, Thaden; Size Matters.”
Chuckling, he thought about her suggestion for a few seconds before selecting it, knowing that she was likely correct. Besides, he had other defenses against psychic attacks already, so he wasn’t too worried.
With nothing else to do but wait at this point, he spent the next few hours deliberating where he wanted to place his free stat points….
