It's Sonic week! (next week) ONLY AT gOLDEN cORRAL, Also I'm breaking up with Elgato, also Kitten

Fellas and fellows, new Sonic game is out, and me and Nick are on the case. This week, I spent all Monday doing set prep work for our obligatory playthrough of Superstars. We recorded the whole thing on Tuesday and I got some good ideas for editing and whatnot that should make it a unique watch. The game was fun and only took maybe 5 hours to beat. Good time, video sometime next week 👍

I'm thinking we make it all one big supercut video. I haven't done full playthroughs for a while, and most of my audience wouldn't want that spamming their feeds for a month, so one big video it is.

All that being said, this being a behind the scenes Patreon, here's all the things that went wrong behind said scenes for this Patreon of behind the scenes. I have you all to thank for things working out here, so if you want to feel special, keep reading. Also, news of future videos and future kittens (singular)

Firstly, I do a lot of zooms and crops in editing. It's my favorite to a fault, and I didn't want to record the Sonic Superstars gameplay in 1080 or any thing less than 4k to make up for my weakness, so I got the Xbox Series X version, which plays in full 4k 60fps.

Now, when you record on a console instead of a PC, you need a capture card, as many normal humans know. What many of you don't know, is that recording in 4k60 without a gaming PC nearby is still not a very easy thing to do.

Elgato is the main capture card manufacturer, and they are the only ones who have a standalone device that records in 4k, the 4K60S+, without the need for an entire PC to help out. I had one, but it decided to die the day before new sonic game. Panic sets in. No 4k? No sonic game? How will I, and the internet live?

I ended up being able to record the Sonic gameplay using the Xbox. It can actually record its own gameplay at 4k60, which is very impressive without lagging. One thing the Series X has done that impressed me and it really came in clutch, but I can't do that for everything, so solutions were needed for future videos. Also I want floating heads in editing, so nick and I got dripped up in these cute green sweaters :)

Honestly, many content people will agree that Elgato isn't very reliable and their hardware support lifetime and customer service is pretty mid. They just happen to have a huge hold on the capture card market for the past 15 years, so people just deal with them, but I think other brands have caught up enough by now where I'll be swapping to another brand to see if they're any good. Those things always gave me issues anyway, and I can't have another day where it takes 10 hours to get a recording setup to work. Not ideal.

I'm going with Asus' newer capture card. It's cheaper, but sadly, it's still not a standalone, and needs a PC to work, so I had to get a cheap, yet capable laptop, and the card itself, and wouldn't you know it, the Patreon pool was able to fund just that. I once again have you folk to thank for evading crisis's like these, and in exchange, my unquenchable desire to zoom and pan and edit way too much, will look a lot crisper and cleaner, and I'll be just a bit prouder of my work :) Here is a pic of me eating the old capture thing. Grrr. Anger.

It is an awesome thing to not have to panic when tech issues hit and new hardware is needed. I am eternally grateful. Also once again props to Xbox for clutching it out for just this one occasion. You are slightly closer to being as good a console as the switch.

So, with the evil of tech malfunctions vanquished (for now) here's the foreseen upload schedule.

Tomorrow or Saturday (if all goes to plan) I will finally be able to put my video making a working PC our of brick toys live. I'm still waiting for the OK from Pantasy, but it's looking like it should be soon. Either way, I'll be working to get this Sonic video out ASAP, and hope to have it done by this upcoming Thursday at the latest.

Next, the official Sonic cookbook is now available, and I plan on doing a vid on that (exactly what  kind of video that will be, I have no clue) so that will be the week after next.

One other big announcement for your eyes only, I'll be getting a little baby kitten this Friday. Normally personal life stuff is personal, but you already know that dude will be jumping on my back when I'm recording, so you'll have know soon enough anyway.

Since you've read so much, I'll give you a break and quit typing now. Big appreciates for yall! Howdy to the new folk. Glad to have everyone here. Until next week 👍

Hey, thanks. Super appreciate you being here, its a big help. Watch out, everyone here is pretty dangerous 💣

Peter Knetter

Yeah, they haven't been making them for very long, but it seems like the only other well established company to make them. I will do indeed.

Peter Knetter

Did not know Asus makes capture cards now, that will work when i need to upgade from my sketchy Elgato HD60s, i guess! Also be sure to update us with kitten pictures.

CavifaX

Thank you for the update! I can't wait to see the new kitty <3 I'm one of your newbies here, literally woke up two days ago and was like "I should subscribe to patters patreon!" And here I am :D thank you for all your hard work, I appreciate the entertainment!

Thanks very much! I do hope to get the stream done soon. I liked having it up. Issue I'm having is that, I don't have enough hard drive space to render it, funny enough. I kind of have space if I'm not in the middle of a project and don't have all the raw files on my pc, but I haven't had any time between them lately. Soon soon.

I seriously love these updates! It's unfortunate that things go wrong, but I'm so glad the Patreon helps in such a big way!! That's why I support you, Patter. Cause you try really hard to put out quality content for us plebs. You do look quite dashing in that green sweater, but then again you always look dashing :) I hope you'll be able to get the stream up again soon! I watch it while working. Love you :D

GmmBeast

Glad all is working out. I have the series X and it is pretty great for casual gaming. It runs great with almost no issues(so far). Look forward to what you have coming up =)
