This week in YouTube, no YouTube. With having some prior engagements Friday and a bunch of behind the scenes things to work out, I don't have enough time to finish the next episode of "Peter". To make it up to everyone, I will now give a lengthy detailed post about what's to come, and what's new.
Firstly, a new icon for the channel. I spent some good hours on it in Blender before it crashed and lost all my textures :) I was about to cry, but I actually took a screenshot of my progress to post here on Patreon, and I stitched that together with a Cycles render. So the completed version you see here is all thanks to you guys. Wow thanks. This generation of my channel icon picture is a philosophical reflection on my increased use of 3D transitions and scans and its super deep and artsy. I must be sophisticated.
Next up this week, I'm working with a cool company for a 60 second sponsorship deal about that handsome desk you see there. I'll have to redo my entire setup to get that moving, and it can take almost a full day of work time to get that done, so I'll be occupied with that, but I'm very excited. My back has been kicking at me in my old age, and it's time to stand up a little.
The next picture you see is a nifty little IBM Thinkpad from around 1998. I had one of those gifted to me as a kid and figured it would be fun to mess around with one and see what Sonic games we could run on it. Totally not just an excuse to have a nostalgia trip and maybe play the Sonic R CDROM on PC (yes, it exists). The Thinkpad I had growing up is long gone, but I found a great deal on the one you see here and it's in great shape. I'm pumped up about it.
The OTHER laptop you see there is a "clamshell" Apple iBook G3. Mac OS is so fascinating to me as someone who loves vintage PC's and has barely touched apple computers. It's a very fresh new tech to experience, and running Sonic games on an OS that isn't really made for gaming will be a challenge to behold. They don't run PC games, only MAC versions, so I'll have to do some heavy research into how I could run games on it. We'll see how it goes.
The iBook that I have has a dying LCD screen that needs saving. The polarizing film on the front of the display has "vinegar disease" as techy ppl say. The glue that holds it on is eroding (and does smell like vinegar) and the entire front film needed to be peeled off and replaced. I got it peeled and took 5 hours to remove the leftover glue residue, and now I just need to wait for new film to arrive. I hear it's a finicky process to get the new one just right, so wish me luck.
Other than that, I'll pick away at some extra stuff for the IBM video too. Thumbnails and 3D scans that need to be made, things like that to get ahead for next week. Maybe I can get a vid out sooner than Friday, we'll see how it goes.
As always, thanks so much for being here and supporting my work. I see some new folks too, and I appreciate it very much. Thanks all. Until next time, Sonic fast :)
