Weekly Update Journal #26

No, I've never done one before, and I don't claim I'll do more. Yes, this is just clickbait. I should have this video up by late this week. Anytime after Thursday maybe, it depends on how perfectionist I let myself pretend to be. After that, I'll be working on a Lego GameCube. What comes after that will depend on which project I get more excited about first. As you can tell, I'm an extremely organized individual with a keen skill for presenting sarcasm in text form, or so I hope. I'm definitely enjoying the tier list style of presenting whatever topic I am interested in. It's an enjoyable twist for myself on my review video format.

Other than that, I was very curious what peoples' opinions were on one aspect of the evolving art world. The AI topic fascinates me, and I at least enjoy poking fun at it, but I am specifically curious about peoples ideas on art as both an expression of creativity and as a skill to be honed, and which is a more valuable subsection. You won't catch me making a serious statement on anything so vastly controversial as some of these topics get. That's not why I use the internet, and I don't take myself that seriously.

I do enjoy verbalizing the mental process behind how people react to things on the web. I've talked about this to some extent in a video about modern trends in movies for instance. A small subsection of repliers are one of many topics I fascinate over. What happens when you ask some people on Twitter about something loosely related to controversial, not fully explored issues (and this is no new discovery) is that they don't read what you typed, and don't reply to what you said. Instead, some people will read what they imagine about you from a database of hunches in their head. Further still, they will reply to the hidden statement that they deduced you were trying to subliminally hide in your question, finally discovering your true statement on something you have never made a statement on. It's a pretty standard way of reacting to potential opportunities to show random users how correct you are.

Definitely not something I am surprised at, I know just as well as anyone that when you post, you subject yourself to that. A small bump to bear for the cost of reaching an audience. I won't complain, but I like to put my thoughts on social media mania into words on occasion.

I like this place for posting thoughts. It feels much more tight knit and that those of you who are subscribed to this page have a higher chance of approaching topics in good faith and understanding. I might post more journal-type posts soon, so I'll at least make this first entry public on here in case people are interested in what I might do on here. Stay goofy ah.

Weekly Update Journal #26

Comments

Late to the party, but the journal is definitely interesting, and Im glad you feel comfortable with us! On AI art, I find as both kind of an artist but mainly a writer, AI art is actually pretty usefully when your better at words but need to visualize something and can't pay an artist $50. And sometimes, you have to sacrifice details of your vision because an artist can't reasonably understand or put on paper, and when your someone like me who's spent literal YEARS on a project, you don't want to sacrifice a single thing. I honestly find artists are way more toxic about this issue than those who use AI, having friends with both viewpoints, even see them straight up lie about comments they've received and claim AI art should be destroyed, which bugs me. When you're cancelling fellow content creators over a sense of superiority and justice, you're part of the problem. Obviously entering AI in human art contests and stolen art is a big issue, but there are rules, some already being implemented, that can take care of that. There will always be something special about human art, and to support that is great, but my honest opinion right now is to just chill. (But on the bright side, because of this ridiculousness, I now know we aren't heading for the Matrix so, cool I guess?)

I think these journals are great! Speaking on AI art, one of the reasons people are so upset at it is because to train an AI you have to feed it something. And that something is real artists' art. Real art from dedicated and hardworking artists is being stolen and fed to the AI without their permission or even their knowledge. So when something is generated, there's potential for someone's art style to be copied. And if someone is using AI for monetary gain and claiming it's their own, it definitely hurts real artists. One YouTuber I love said he may use AI art to make a new profile picture instead of commissioning an artist. And that's another reason people are upset. There's potential for people to turn to the easy-to-use AI for profile pictures, channel banners, thumbnails and other things while not commissioning real artists and losing them business and money. Anyway, that's my take. What you're doing is in no way any of the above. It's extremely clear when you're using AI and it's all for fun and goofy times. I'm personally not a huge fan of the most recent AI content (and not because of the reasons above). I just don't really find it interesting. But the background in the switch controllers video was funny! Stay goofy.
