Animation is progressing steadily! Tonight I'm in the middle of a long driving scene (the first image). The characters are just sitting and talking, so it's very simple in terms of movement, but the length and number of characters makes it tedious. Overall I'm having a good time on this episode though-- it is one of the more talky ones so it's not all super-exciting to draw, but there are a bunch of little character interactions that make me laugh each time I see them. Rather than a big significant story, I think the fun of this one is just in watching everybody bounce off each other.
It's been so fucking hot in Toronto lately! I've found it hard to work during the afternoon (I don't have central AC) but I'm still moving at a good speed... just been a little more nocturnal than usual. I know I still need to set up an online store so people outside Toronto can buy the Production Notes zine. It'll happen soon.
Outside of cartoon progress:
I finally watched Sinners. I thought it was really good, although I had a few little nitpicks I won't get into. I also saw this movie Tokiwa the Manga Apartment, about a bunch of manga artists who lived together in the late 50s. The subject matter is right up my alley, but it was pretty underwhelming. I can't really recommend it! I also revisited the unreleased Disney documentary The Sweatbox about the tortured production of what became The Emperor's New Groove. That one is pretty fascinating. I wrote a long thing about it on Letterboxd so I'll just link to that review.
The main podcasts I've been listening to while working lately are Confessions of a Crap Artist (on the SFUltra Patreon) and The Flophouse, a perennial favourite of mine. In terms of music, it's been a lot of Mishio Ogawa/Chakra, Boredoms, and Nativismo Obscuro by Chimia... And still a ton of Beach Boys. I was doing a big Brian Wilson binge for about a month before he died, and then of course I only listened more. I'm currently reading the book Deliver Me From Nowhere and the manga Tokyo These Days.
Thank you for your patience! I'm currently going as fast as I can on this episode.
