Skye’s Former Guy

Yet another disastrous date between Skye and her ex-boyfriend, Fang. Fang may not be great at passing his community college courses or not getting fired from kibble kitchen or supporting the arts or remembering Skye’s birthday, but ehhh…Skye nonetheless valued his company, sorta. Mostly she valued the sweaty wall-slamming sex they’d have (“Absolutely unreal dick game” Skye could be quoted saying while doing a chef’s kiss gesture). It was usually enough to slap a bandaid over their total incompatibility…. at least, until their next big fight. Rinse and repeat.

Sunny is a rebound for Skye. They met one night when Fang stood Skye up (again) for a restaurant date (on their anniversary). With her mascara dribbling down her cheeks Skye vows she is DONE with Fang (who is no doubt playing smash bros high at his apartment at that very moment), done with MEN, done with PEOPLE period! Forever! This she swears to her waiter, Sunny, who is fully unequipped to deal with her blubbery breakdown and just wanted to know if she wanted garlic knots (YES).

Sunny’s shift ends and he decides to stick around to cheer up that sad, sad, garlic knot-inhaling pretty lady, and the rest is history~

Wait hold on that would actually be really funny and interesting (like if Fang ends up changing for the better I mean, though still interesting to see if he didn’t)

Doglover502

As for doubling down, yeah, I think it could be interesting if Fang doesn't change for the better and instead becomes one of those hyper misogynistic alpha gymbro seduction artist influencers. Where he flexes online about all the money and fancy cars and women he apparently has access to, while pretending his life isn't absolutely devoid of meaningful connection

Lopoddity

Skye is capable of being mean. Fang is definitely genuinely insecure about his intelligence, but he also strikes me to use it as a shield against criticism. Classic weaponized incompetence. He'd argue how could Skye expect him to put the dishes away without breaking any? He's just a big dumb guy, that sorta stuff doesn't come naturally to him like it does for a girl like her (the implication being that Skye would be better off handling the chores on her own). He'd get frustrated with his classes and throw up his hands, he's just too stupid to get it, so why bother? Nevermind Skye offering to help him study, or pointing out free tutoring services. At certain points Skye was writing term papers for Fang just to keep him from flunking (he claimed writing gave him headaches). Fang doesn't like to try, partly because he's afraid to fail, but also largely because he knows someone (his girlfriend or mom) will always show up to bail him out. He has no incentive to change. When Skye inevitably tires of his manipulation, she wouldn't be afraid to hit him where it hurts. Wanna play dumb? Get treated accordingly.

Lopoddity

you said in another comment that fang opened up to skye about his insecurity around his intelligence… if skye said get dumped idiot verbatim and thats not just you paraphrasing in order to quote the meme, i wonder if skye thought about how that might be a stab in the sensitive part of himself he showed her. if he would take that text as a reason to self reflect or if that jab at his self worth would just make him resent her and double down on his shittiness

AsTheJayFlies

Is it bad that I ship Fang and Bruce? If only for the comedic potential of them going on a double date with Sunny and Skye.

Scorp

Skye wrote Fang an essay-length break-up text about how sometimes things just don't work out and how people can care for each other deeply without being a good match...and then she remembered he stood her up on their anniversary. She promptly deleted her goodbye and instead texted him "get dumped, idiot", then blocked his number

Lopoddity

Did Fang ever wonder why Skye stopped calling or coming around?

Amanda Stidham

makes sense why she would/possibly has hooked up with Topher- punk emotionally immature/shutoff badboy with a secret heart of gold sounds like a Skye kryptonite, in possibly the worst way. Thank god both of them know eachother too well to ever try actually dating bc the mental image alone of that relationship alone is giving me a stress migraine. It's so sweet (and probably one of the best outcomes for her) that she ended up with Sunny, who can play rough but is also just a dumb puppy who will love her pretty unconditionally in the way she might actually need vs what she's used to.

Antanas

I love questions! :3 Skye is drawn to emotionally unavailable people because they feel familiar to her (thanks Strawberry!). She definitely has a thing for bad boys, and she especially has a thing for bad girls. Her very first crush growing up was a high school mean girl that liked to shoplift. With Fang she was drawn in by his cool, aloof nature. Skye has a habit of contorting herself to get cool people to like her. She'll desperately downplay her dorky-nerdy side and try to seem cool and disaffected herself. She's semi-aware of this and hates how she turns into a dumb giggly hair-twirling schoolgirl whenever she meets somebody hot and indifferent and just a bit (or very) problematic. While Skye normally has a very strong moral compass, she's been known to excuse flaws in people she finds attractive, or wants to impress. For a long time Skye was infatuated with the sensitive, well-meaning, ideal version of Fang she'd made up in her head- it takes her a good while to come to terms with his actual self.

Lopoddity

Oh gosh 😭 Fang no

knickknacks

It's kind of neat to see how broad Skye's type is- also I have to imagine there is some kind of appeal to someone with a lot of muscles when you've grown up on a farm- I can so easily imagine Skye reading all these invisible nuances into Fang about how he's secretly capable of being this disciplined, vulnerable guy (with amazing dick game) and then the slow, cruel awakening. I know I ask a question every time (I'm so sorry, I love devouring Fuzzbutts lore and character tidbits like a starving wolf) but does Skye have like. a type that she's consistently drawn in by? (and is it muscles LMAO)

Antanas

Of course Fang and Sunny have met! Our good lad Fang has the emotional intelligence of Patrick Star. Did you really think Sunny could swipe Fang's girl out from under his nose without Fang doing something about it? :)

Lopoddity

I’m tantalized by the prospect of Fang self-reflecting and growing after Skye (VERY rightfully) leaves him, and also glad as everything that Skye got out of that relationship and now is with someone who DOES love her in a much more reciprocal way. Has Sunny ever run into Fang in the wild? Does he know who he is?

knickknacks

Only her hair is sparkly. The white spots on her fur are just part of her natural coat pattern

Lopoddity

I was unprepared for Sparkly Skye.

Alight

i can only imagine honey's reaction to hearing topher and skye have hooked up at some point. must be her actual worst nightmare

gamigami

This is information I’m happy to receive

Emily Lemur

Fang:…I-is it a play with only orca actors? Skye: *slowly, carefully, takes down her hair in controlled motions. Stares unseeingly into the mirror. Sighs deeply*….Yes

Heather

Yeeeeeah i played myself. I meant to design the most insufferable douche-canoe of a shitty ex i could manage but i forgot i love shitty pathetic asshole characters. It's Honey Meadowsweet all over again 😔

Lopoddity

Banged Fang or banged Skye? Probably both at some point tbh

Lopoddity

Yup. There's a massive ongoing debate about whether it is nurture or nature that dictates attraction, as it is well-documented that most fuzzfolk look to their own species (or sufficiently related species) for partners. Interspecies dating is still a relatively new social phenomenon, and is slowly but surely becoming more common as society becomes more integrated. Still, some folk insist they could never find a different animal attractive. Other folk fetishize the hell out of other species. It's a real mixed bag! Certainly a common reason for dating within one's own species is simply logistics. It's easier for a dog to share a living space with another dog than say, a giraffe. Sex is another issue, there are limits in how drastic the size difference between a couple can be before sex becomes unfeasible, or outright dangerous. Furthermore, people are usually socialized by their own species and thus have an easier time communicating/flirting with members of their own species. Bodily and social cues vary widely across the animal kingdom, after all. Social misunderstandings between species are very common, what reads like an obvious courtship gesture to one species may come off as strange to another. All this said, Skye does and has dated other species. I originally considered a horse, goat, and wolverine for Fang's species. I settled on a pitbull because I think it'sfunny how strongly he contrasts against goofy ass Sunny. :3

Lopoddity

You do such a great job in how your characters visually express their emotions. It’s all there, facial expressions, body language. Truly masterful work. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Solohammer

Fang can be a cutie patootie with good dick game and ALSO be an exhausting tar pit of a person that devours all emotional and mental energy. Skye got a man who could do both~

Lopoddity

Fang doesn't quite exactly know what the word orchestra means and at this point he's scared to ask

Lopoddity

Does Skye only date dogs? Not very open minded of you Skye 😂 Is it normal for animals to mostly date their own species?

owlcoholik

Lop: *has all these amazing, sweet, multi-dimensional characters* Lop: *introduces Mr. Fuckboi McDouche* Me: I like that one! (but in all seriousness I would LOVE to see a return of Fang. Maybe a certain Reindeer who voluntarily tutors at the local community college comes along and tries to help him whip his grades [and attitude] into shape 👀👀👀)

Your_Gym_Partner

My aunt (newly and happily lesbian in her older age) once told me that she never saw the red flag if it was attached to a nice green pole

Heather

I get it, Skye. Being needed by someone is so addictive but eventually you have to wake up and realize that someone who needs you like that could never support you the way YOU need. And adult relationships aren't built on unconditional love, so they will fail if both people aren't putting in the work.

ummhallelujah

Thanks! Fang is modeled off a very particular kinda guy I encountered a lot in college, the default shitty boyfriend so many of my friends dated and complained about constantly. Now that I work in college advising, I still encounter the same kind of guy, usually on his phone while his mom or girlfriend anxiously try to register him for classes. The same guy is often back at my desk a couple months later, griping that his professors sucked at teaching the material so it's not HIS fault he failed all his classes and that's why he should totally get his tuition refunded! >:( Fang is not a monster, but he was a pretty lousy boyfriend. Fang's dad bailed on him early, so his mother became very overprotective in response, coddling and pampering her son- and eventually, making excuses for his behavior. A "boy mom", if you will. Fang grew up into a highly immature adult and has a lot of learned helplessness. His mom did everything for him and he never really learned how to take care of himself, or others. So he's afraid to try, and even more afraid to fail, so he simply wanders through life in total apathy, content with video games and junkfood and hanging with his bros. College and steady employment and supporting local orchestra are very low on his priorities. He did want a girlfriend, though. For sex, for company, and, to be completely honest, to have somebody to care for him and do his laundry just like his mama did. He's instantly attracted to Skye (that is one curvaceous canine) and pretends to be the sort of sensitive, intellectual guy she might go for. Over time, this illusion crumbles as Fang tires of the effort. Skye was initially drawn to Fang's big beefy bod, but is charmed by his gentler, more vulnerable side (where Fang expresses his insecurities and lack of faith in his intelligence or competence), and she wants to help him. She signs him up at community college and writes his resumes. She cares for him and cuddles him when he's sad and doesn't even mind much when he forgets to wash the dishes or save her any leftovers. And eventually, Skye realizes she is not being a romantic partner so much as she is.....mothering Fang. She was initially addicted to the feeling of being needed by someone, but quickly realizes this is not love, this is a transactional relationship with a man-child that can't be bothered to help her pay for or carry in the groceries, but will certainly help her eat them. Dick game be damned! >:( Skye doesn't have to take this! The funny part is, getting dumped by Skye actually hurts Fang a lot and wakes him up just a teeny bit to his shortcomings. I like to think that he does eventually work on himself. Uh. Well. Y'know. Eventually.

Lopoddity

Everybody thinking Fang is an absolute cutie patootie and I'm over here physically recoiling because he sounds WAY too much like my ex. I too fell for the unreal dick game, Skye.

Corinne Stephenson

I love Fang's design and eagerly await finding out if he's gonna accidentally develop a whole backstop and family or if he's gonna stay a background character. Mostly joking, though it probably says something that that's my first thought. You do such a great job of exploring people that I'm sitting here wondering *why* Fang is so inconsiderate. Is he just That Kinda Dude? Is he suffering from executive dysfunction hell? ...which opened up the "how did these two even get together" question box. Like - why was he ever Skye's partner and not just fwb?

Scyllarus

Fang, did in fact, care about supporting the local orchestra Got DAYMN Skye you are KILLING in that dress 🤩 and her HAIR!!!! ✨ ✨ ✨

Heather

Skyes outfit IS AMAZING! … I wonder if Topher has banged that bad boy at some point too?

Emily Lemur

Ha, that's a sweet story. 😊 I didn't mean to imply rebounds are bad or don't work out, Skye subconsciously seeks out the sort of love that was modeled to her growing up (via Strawberry), which is why she had a hard time letting go of emotionally unavailable and inconsiderate Fang. He made her unhappy, but the feeling was at least familiar. But in her heart of hearts, Skye really wants to be loved openly and unabashedly (the sort of love that Saint modeled to her, the kind that Strawberry modeled before Saint died), and Sunny is able to do that full-force. Sunny can be vulnerable and shameless and not at all stingy with his affection, and Skye didn't even know how badly she needed that. Sunny isn't just a clumsy rebound to her, she truly does love him, to a degree that frightens her sometimes.

Lopoddity

As much as I hate men like Fang, he's a cutie and I hope we see more of him- aside from that I love that Skye and Sunny met in such a real and wholesome way <3

SilageKiddZ

To quote tiktok "He is NOT the love of your LIFE, he is LITERALLY just a GUY. HIT HIM WITH YOUR CAR!" Good for Skye though, she is way too stone cold of a certified babe to be putting up with that bullshit behavior. And hey, sometimes rebounds work. My now husband came over to my house for me to sob into his shirt after my ex sent me a break-up email (we were 17) and then boom, married 10 years later.
