Work Doodles + Bonus Doodle

Edit: bloop, added 1 more :P

gonna try and polish some of the doodles I do in the margins of my work notebook, there’s sooooo many lol

1.) Flashback featuring young Bob and Kathleen learning they’d really rather not have children after all, at just about the worst possible moment. The pair had found themselves in a bit of a rut about 7 years into their marriage, and figured meh, maybe it was about time to have a couple kids. It’s what a husband and wife are supposed to do, right? They don’t actively try to conceive so much as they shrug and stop trying NOT to conceive- buuuut a positive pregnancy test doesn’t bring the thrill and excitement they thought it would. Instead it brings panic, and a suffocating sensation of being caught in a trap. Particularly for Kathy, who dreads the inevitable strain on her body, as well as forever losing her independence and freedom to a tiny screaming infant.

Fortunately for our beaver couple, the test ends up being a false positive. It prompts them to have a much-needed conversation, where they’re both relieved to learn the other is just as happy to live out the rest of their days child-free, thank you very much. Also, Bob gets a vasectomy.

2.) Bob can toss Toffee around like a foam pool noodle, it’s not hard at all. Always remember to (lovingly) manhandle your men, folks!

3.) I draw so much of Honey being innocently insensitive or deliberately offensive that I forget about the parts where she sometimes manages to be innocently accidentally charming

Holy shit that sounds awful! Glad to have you back! :D

Lopoddity

I'm slowly catching up on last month's posts, Lop! My bank locked my card (long story short, I support an artist on here from overseas and my card got flagged) I'm so glad to see your arts again! 💜

Cerulean

Aww that’s nice ^^….HEY WAIT A MINUTE- :O

Doglover502

I second that pop media trend being annoying. I've never wanted kids but it took my family like 25 years to stop asking when I was gonna have kids and my mom even longer. I have plenty of female friends without kids who are perfectly happy.

forthehonor-ofgayskull

Ohhh can't wait to meet his siblings and parents!

forthehonor-ofgayskull

Hmm… something seems familiar with this one

Tibbles Yorkie789

Very sane! Bob grew up in a coastal New England town. His father, Bob. Sr, owned a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, and ran it alongside his flamboyant and loving wife Lin. The restaurant never quite took off, and the family constantly straddled the poverty line, but somehow they all managed to be happy anyway. Bob has lots of fun childhood memories getting into mischievous adventures with his older siblings Tina, Gene, and Louise....

Lopoddity

Thanks! 🤩 All I can think of is Diane Nyugen, and Christina Yang from Grey's Anatomy, but that show is infamously melodramatic so of course her marriage imploded after she got the abortion. Pop media has this (imo) annoying trend where they'll introduce a female character who professes over and over how much she doesn't want kids, before inevitably writing her accidentally getting pregnant and discovering children and a marriage to hetero Joe was what she needed to be truly happy all along~ Or worse, a strong, independent female character has a whoopsie baby and her personality and storyline is instantly obliterated as she is forever relegated to the role of "mother", and nothing more. Like obviously, sure, loads of women WANT kids, and I'm sure many women have even found ways to be happy with children they didn't plan and maybe didn't even initially want. But I'm so tired of this narrative that a woman is incomplete unless she's a mom, or that a romance isn't "happily ever after" unless the couple pops out a couple babies. I am childfree by choice, I am friends with several women who neither have nor want children. And we're all perfectly fine. Sometimes people just don't want kids, and that's fine, and I'd really like to see it more commonly in media. Bob and Kath don't sit around lamenting their childless lives, they're perfectly fulfilled on their own.

Lopoddity

Yes, eventually! Trying to work out how to stitch the Meadowsweet story back into the main Fuzzbutts story, rn Honey and the gang feel like their own spin-off show, lol

Lopoddity

I know its not super relevant but I would love to know more about Bob's past :D He's fairly well-adjusted in comparison to some of the less fortunate cast members lol, how was his childhood? Were his parents...sane?

Dean

I love all the diversity with your women!! I think the only middle aged woman I can think of in media that explicitly didn't want kids is Diane from Bojack Horseman. Kathy deserves the world and all the sapphic encounters, and Bob deserves to throw his pool noodle husband just a bit

Coraline T

Will Toffee, Topher, and/or Mal will ever meet Honey’s nemesis, Skye? Or know of her?

Benjimator

God.... Poor Honey but poor Maple too... She's so isolated... Like, none of the people she hurt are obligated to forgive her of course but. I still hope she eventually finds some sort of happiness for herself

Lammergayier

In her late 20s, Kath noticed she was growing a large patch of premature grey hair. She went to the salon to get it discreetly dyed, but ended up going with hot pink on impulse

Lopoddity

Yes. Maple's approach to motherhood was to treat her child like her best friend and spoil the heck out of her, which earned her ALL of Honey's love growing up. But Honey got older, and naturally wanted to socialize with her peers instead of her mother, which made Maple sad and frightened. Her little girl wasn't HER little girl anymore. Maple responds by becoming clingy, controlling, and wildly overprotective, constantly worried about what terrible influence the wicked secular world may have over her daughter. Honey HATES this, hates being treated like a dumb little kid. Resentment builds and she begins to view her mother as a spineless panic-prone crybaby. She far prefers her father, who is firm, unafraid, and always full of conviction. Merry also gives her waaaaay more breathing room than Maple (read: Merry is emotionally neglectful), and so Honey is compelled to constantly vy for his attention and approval.

Lopoddity

Ooof, poor Maple. That had to have stung considering the…. everything

TheTabbyBadger

Dear God, the terror of children, so terrifying Bob opens his eyes!!! 😳...... Just realized I've never seen him with open eyes 😄 😆

Bigsmile

I love that Kathy always has pink hair, no matter what! It's such a nice pop of color with her warm brown palette, makes me think of strawberries. How long has she been dyeing her hair like that?

Mastodon

It’s so nice to see Honey have a legitimate nice moment. It’s funny to see how dinky she is compared to Toffee XD

Angsty Ram

Shortly after their first ever meeting Honey, spotting Toffee's wedding ring: *coyly* Sooooo when do I get to meet your wife? Toffee: 😀????

Lopoddity

Honey is also bouncing her lil leggies :3 Shared sibling quirks~

Lopoddity

Toffee has such a great fashion sense! I love his pink shirt and jeans. :)

Paladin

I am emotional for found family and this is serving up every angle of it 🥰

Emily Lemur

NAWWWWT TOFFEE SWINGING HIS LIL LEGGY LIKE A SCHOOL GIRL ALL GIDDY LOP PLEASE LOP I HAVE A CONDITION 😭💕 (Wherein we find that Honey's gaydar is broken, apparently, like girl that is a fruit that is a banana ripe for peeling.)

mirarevias

Yep, eventually. Way overdue to have Honey interact with either of her parents, lol. Most I’ve showed was a sketch of Honey talking to Maple on the phone. Their relationship was really good for most of Honey’s childhood, but as an adult Honey finds her mother to be a suffocating and frustrating presence. Merry is her preferred parent, Honey is very much a daddy’s girl.

Lopoddity

Seeing Honey here reminded me, doo you plan to draw anything that's both Maple and Honey related? Like interactions between them?

Azure

I know mammals in Fuzzbutts usually only have one child per pregnancy, but some beavers have been recorded having up to eight kits in a single litter (roughly two to four appears to be way more common, but still), and considering that Strawberry and Saint had a litter of five, I would be even more intimidated by pregnancies in this universe if I was in Kathleen’s shoes. Also, that last drawing you added is extra wholesome when you remember that future “woke” Honey ends up looking a lot like Toffee, I love it.

FloweryFruitFangs

Kathy 🤝me never wanting to be pregnant, ever. If I ever arrive at a point in life where I am ready to be a parent (which. The jury’s still out on that one), I will look into adopting. Just thinking about pregnancy freaks me out on so many levels. On a brighter note- Bob and Toffee, hooray!! This is a really niche detail but I adore the way you draw blushes on characters- it’s so cute and funny every time, and I love the way it colors their whole face and ears as well. Makes me smile :)

knickknacks

I love that for him!

Lammergayier

Bob has a running joke that he likes masculine women and feminine men. Bob has known he was proooobably not entirely straight for a long time, but he definitely didn't know he was bi. The farthest it went was getting drunk with Kath and discussing which celebrities they'd "go gay" for. And then years later, Bob meets Toffee, who is SO pretty and tall and articulate and just a bit goofy, Bob gets weirdly flustered around him and stumbles over his words like an idiot. It's Kathleen who points out Bob has a crush, to which Bob thinks ohhhhh yeah, that makes sense. He still thinks he's "bicurious" for some time, until he actually starts dating Toff and discovers he is definitely delightfully undeniably VERY bisexual

Lopoddity

Toffee's little "Wah...." Question, how long has Bob known that he's bisexual? Did he know before he met Toffee? Or was Toff his bi awakening?

Lammergayier

I am so glad I'm not the only one who has to do this lol

Fukōsagi

Gahd, I love your beaver characters. I have one that I need to draw more of.

pookaWOODS

Every time I see these two I want a beaver sona

Iowasi

Ngl, one of the reasons I don't often draw wedding rings is cuz I find it tricky remembering to place them on the left hand. I always have to like, orient my body into the pose the character is in to figure out which hand is the left one XD

Lopoddity

Bob & Kathleen: *grabbing each other and jumping for joy* :D!!! Doctor: Er, I think you might’ve misheard, I said it turns out you're NOT actually pregnant- Kathleen: *uncorking a bottle of champagne* :D!!!!!!!

Lopoddity

NOT THE EMOJI I'M 😭😭😟

mirarevias

considering how much Toffee flirts and ruffles up Bob I think this pool noodle time is well deserved >:3. The power of being able to scoop up your lanky husband at any time has to go to ur head,,,, the mental image of Bob slinging Toffee around like you do a beloved pet cat has entered my mind and will not leave it

Antanas

Doctor: We are so sorry, it’s a false positive Kathleen and Bob: 💃 🕺 🎉

Emily Lemur

Oh that first one hits real close to home. Thankfully I have always known becoming a parent isn’t for me but it still doesn’t stop that feeling of dread that creeps up. The second one is brilliant. Mainly cause being strong enough to pick up people, I find that’s always the reaction Edit: just noticed their rings, I love it so much and love the pair of them dearly 🥹

Angsty Ram

Kathy's horrified face as she clutches her chest breaks my heart. I feel you, Kathy, I really do. I thankfully have never had the experience of a pregnancy scare, but I definitely have done a LOT of thinking about whether or not I'd have kids, and it's really become a big old NOPE, which I've only become sure of as I've gotten older. Between my health issues and my personality, I make a great auntie, but a parent? Nah. And I don't want some bean growing in my body making my health issues even WORSE. I can only imagine how hard it is for her even BEFORE she realizes she's not straight 😭

mirarevias

I am hoping that Bob and toffee joke “don’t worry I had a vasectomy, we’re safe” But I really feel for Kathy and Bob, sometimes the thought of having kids is a metronome, and you don’t really know where it will end up until you’re put into a situation like that. It’s something I fear often, so glad it worked out the best for them

Tibbles Yorkie789

It’s such a tiny detail almost unnoticed but I’m so pleased you gave them wedding rings it just made my heart melt a tiny bit extra 😭❤️
