Knock It Off (WIP)
Added 2021-06-29 01:29:25 +0000 UTCsorry for the art slowdown lately, i've been kinda depressed myself. just a funk where i can't seem to finish anything. this happens pretty predictably due to hormone fluctuation, i think i'll be back up to speed (hopefully) within a few days. in the meantime have some sisterssss
Cloudburst is almost perpetually depressed, but most ponies only see her playful, joking exterior. Cloudy tries to be a funny, low maintenance friend, because she's secretly afraid of anybody seeing beneath the surface and being repelled. This means Cloudy's rather out of touch with her own feelings, and tends to putter along thinking she's doing okay, riiiight up until she's having a full blown panic attack, or sprawled out on her bedroom floor for three days straight. Phoenix, being prone to depressive episodes herself, is pretty good at seeing right through her little sister's mask. Phoenix worries about Cloudy a lot and checks in with her very frequently. As such, Phoenix is one of the few ponies Cloudy can sometimes drop her mask around. If Phoenix walks into Cloudy''s apartment to find her in a filthy sweatshirt and haggard from going days without sleep- well, what's the point of trying to play if off like a joke? Nix has seen it before, and she doesn't judge. She just herds Cloud into a bath and into fresh clothes, and puts on dumb movies until she hears her little sister snoring against her. It's just what big sisters do.
(This doesn't mean Phoenix doesn't occasionally get frustrated. She thought for sure some exercise would put Cloudpuff in a better mood! Feel better, dammit!)

Sometimes the body will produce extra hormones during certain cycles (menstrual cycles, for example), and that sudden drop in hormones after it passes can sometimes cause bouts of depression. It varies a lot from person-to-person and can also vary between individual cycles, but to answer your question, yes.
