Ahoy mateys, small novel ahead because I have THOUGHTS that CANNOT be contained: LOP IM SCRRAMING IM SCREAMING IM SCREAMING I SWEAR IM FJWKDIISOROEO THIS IS?? FANTASTIC???? Seriously I'm freaking out at how cute you made them and how well you captured their personalities!!! Tlaco being a level-headed, outwardly aloof/cold but really very caring, takes-no-bs, screw-your-arranged-marriage-im-getting-a-job-instead-DAD kind of girl is PERFECT. Xoco being an alpaca? I didn't know I NEEDED IT but I DID and it fits so well! Her being the teasing big sis that will FITE anyone that's not her that teases the boys is *chef's kiss*. And her being tasked to protect Tlaco on recon missions? I see the two working together frighteningly (and perhaps unpredictably) well, and monte's always a little (fondly) wary of what kind of trouble the two could cause for him if and when they put their minds to it. Tlaco, his second command, who knows all his secrets and mess-ups; Xoco, with the wit and the unreserved willingness to use it against him at a future date when convenient. I can see them both being unafraid to call things out as they are... Except for maybe the itty-bitty, teeny-tiny crush they harbor for each other that they're convinced isn't shared. But it's fine, really -- they're incredibly close, to the surprise of many, who wouldn't think their personalities would work together. And oma and cui? Absolutely PERFECT. SPOT ON. And the OmaCuitl teasing from Xoco I WJFJWOODOSO YES. DO IT. NOW KEES. Everyone's designs are INCREDIBLE and SO PERFECT. I didn't have too much of an image in my mind of any of them when I was writing IatHTNGVB(F)D(oMW) (Jesus, that title), so to see them now and have it feel so *right* is such a dang cool feeling!! I'm in LOVE (Though, tiny tweak -- in my mind I think Tlaco would join Xoco in not being afraid to talk back to their boss, though it's of course something she gains comfort in over time -- at the beginning she can't risk getting fired, after all -- but instead of Xoco's snark and sass, Tlaco is more deadpan, matter-of-fact. Yes, boss, you DO need to report your labor for this year or you're committing tax evasion, and that's not your brand of criminal activity. No, boss, you shouldn't drink two shots of espresso and a red bull mixed with whiskey to get through these finance reports. Yes, boss, I'll call the medic for the heart palpitations you now have since you did it anyway. Of course, that's just me, and I L O V E what you've done with the gang so far!!! They're precious ;u; ) Also MONTE OFFERS DENTAL MONTE OFFERS DENTAL this is such a minor thing to latch on to but I have latched on to it with the ferocity of a small dog with a chew toy and you won't get me to let go!! They're my employees, lots of them joined to support their families, and I'm not gonna force my own opinions on them. Does bon bon force you to listen to music she likes but you hate? No? Oh she lets you be your own person? Cool wow not so hard to imagine huh So, now youve got me imagining monte kidnapping phoenix. That has so much potential to go wrong it's incredible. A) phoenix busts out of her chains with nothing but bare strength. B) shes annoying enough, on purpose, to make Montezuma regret everything. C) she hears Smoky took an employee that really had nothing to do with anything and breaks free to kick his ass *herself*, because she and Smoky have likely had a lot of discussion about not letting others' actions define you (the changelings and 'savage' dragons for Smoky, rainbow dash and her fame for nix) and for him to throw that out the moment it proved convenient for his gotdamned JOB?? Step aside monte, phoenix has some WORDS to have with that boy. (I also still haven't gotten over the idea of nix and tlaco meeting and immediately teasing the ever living shit out of their boys... Lovingly. Probably.) All this to say, smoky would learn VERY quickly that monte has been holding back (at the very least in the lethal force department) so far, and refuses to do so when it's his famil-- uhhh, minions on the line. Smoky does NOT make this mistake again (and eventually grows begrudgingly fond enough of most of monte's employees that he wouldn't be able to do it, anyway). Also!! the question above about the minions motives for joining the cause got me thinking: what if, once monte has mostly mellowed out, a minion joins him on the basis of similar ideals, but he's like early-stages monte, all fire and brimstone and pain and borderline extremism.... And Monte, having to stop himself from DEFENDING Smoky on a few occasions as this new kid spits vitriol, realizes how far he's come. How things aren't so black and white. (Smoky just shoots him a knowing smirk when monte tells him how he's dealing with this new kid who's just insufferable, won't listen to the other side of a story, automatically assumes everyone's out to get him.... Oh knock it off agent, I was never THAT bad... Right?)

Hm, by chance is Tlaco a batpony? The part about her never taking her cape off reminded me of sunflower's cult branding. Maybe she hides the brand under her shawl? (sorry haha just shooting in the dark. Recently became a patreon, I spent a few hours going through all the artwork you've got and it's so lovely!!)

You're on the money, it's a blend of both. Most of the minions joined for the money and benefits (Monty offers dental!). Monty doesn't impose his ideology on them, but as he and the minions bond and start managing to succeed at missions, they naturally grow to admire their leader and start believing in his cause. The minions are not inherently wicked criminals, just average people not especially concerned with obeying the law, or at least the laws they perceive to be unjust. Montezuma would flip his shit if one of his minions got captured, especially if the capture was violent and they got hurt. He would immediately organize a rescue mission....or, depending on the gravity of the situation, do something drastic, like perhaps kidnap one of Smoky's loved ones (like Phoenix) and demand his minion be traded back for her.

I like it when the henchmen got personality! What reasons do most of Montes crew have for becoming accomplices in his criminal activities? Are they all idealists looking to right the wrongs of their homelands plundered artifacts? Are they criminals looking for a decent paying gig? Or is it a bit of both? Also, what happens if Smoky caught one to arrest? I'd imagine Monte would go berserk

oh my god Lop you are so amazing! I love these minions with their creative designs and dynamic personalities, and I'm especially happy that you included a llama in the team! There's not enough llama representation in the fandom :)
