I like to imagine that Night Light and Twilight Velvet are oddballs among the Canterlot elite. They're new money, having met as broke university students, before Velvet's eventual success as the ghostwriter for the Daring Do book series launched them into a whole new tax bracket. They're goofy and eccentric and wonderfully oblivious to the ins and outs of high society, but they're happy as hell and ridiculously proud of their family- which includes a royal guard captain, an actual alicorn empress daughter-in-law, a daughter that used friendship to transcend the shackles of her mortal unicorn body, a dragon grandson, the lord of chaos as a son-in-law, a she-draconequus as a granddaughter, Equestria's first ever naturally-born alicorn, and one overworked heir to the Crystal Empire. They get weird looks on their family outings but who cares! Smile for the camera, everyone!

I would love to see a family picture- like a snapshot of a picnic when the absolute most chaos happens or is about to happen. (But that’s like 10+ characters and would be so much work omg)

Like you know that one old Spongebob episode where Spongebob gets roped into doing increasingly insane extreme sports with Sandy before she hibernates for winter? I imagine Velvet's kinda like that. "C'mon, Panny, there's still time for us to motorcycle over the industrial meat grinder!" and Pan quietly thinking ".....This mare's trying to kill me."

It’s a ‘peaceful’ side of her that we don’t see too often, but is always a welcome treat to see 😊 ps. I also love the little detail of Night Light having dappled fur on his back, like a nebula of stars, and the headcanon of Twilight Velvet gaining ‘sudden’ success as a hit novelist. It kind of reminds me of Back to The Future, with Marty convincing his younger dad to become a science fiction writer.

2020-06-06 23:36:09 +0000 UTCAw, no, you don't have to. You're not the first I've seen to make Twilight's parents snobs, and that's cuz it's a pretty natural storytelling choice. At the start of the series Twilight is snobby herself and somewhat antisocial, and waaaaay too fixated on maintaining Celestia's approval, like to an unhealthy degree. It's very reasonable that her neurotic tendencies would stem from snotty parents with sky-high expectations. It's made even more alluring as a narrative choice since Twilight's parents are kinda bland in the show. They're just kinda goofy and nice. At first I didn't like them, but they really grew on me! I figure Twilight developed her antisocial nature from her parents being super extroverted and kind of oblivious about their daughter's boundaries. As a new money kid, Twilight was very much out of her depth among the sophisticated and social youth of Canterlot, and frequently bullied and teased for her major social blunders, like not knowing her dessert spoon from her soup spoon. Because of this Twilight retreated into her studies, hyperfixating on her mentor and role model, Princess Celestia. To this day, she's still a teeny bit embarrassed by her parents (who surprisingly get along GREAT with Discord)
