can y'all tell i like drawing birbs
i really like the design of the pirate birds, but one thing that bothered me about Celaeno's design was how slim and humanoid she looks compared to the rest of her crew, whom are all mostly hunched over and beastly looking. So I chucked her old waifish design out the window in favor of a giant raptor. Because the solution to any bird design is "needs more dinosaur".
Celaeno and her crew are large birds of prey known as Harpies. Their wings have slowly evolved into strong forearms used to manipulate their environment. Although harpies are flightless, they can run at incredible speed, and their powerful hind legs are capable of impressive jumps and kicks. Harpies are drawn to shiny things, and are known to attack wearers of fancy rings and gems, sometimes seizing a choice bit of jewelry with the owner's limb still attached.
.....They're not really the kid-friendly kind of pirates.
