So I'm on Strattera!

I followed the labyrinthine path of mental health and wound up talking to a psychiatrist. I lucked out and the medicaid facility I fell into has a lot of genuine, helpful, interested doctors.  Was officially-ish diagnosed with C-PTSD, which I already knew I had. It's nice to be able to say: OK but the DSM backs me up so.

He agreed that I had a lot of symptoms of ADHD, though whether they're from the PTSD or the condition was opened by trauma or whether it's a comorbidity is up for debate. That's a question neurologists and psychiatrists still don't have an answer for quite yet, though new information is coming out daily. Science is so INTERESTING!!!!

Atomoxetine (the generic of strattera) is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. I react badly to stimulants like caffeine so the psychiatrist went the non-stimulant route, which is just fine with me. I don't especially enjoy highs and lows. I want a nice, even homeostasis during which I can remember things and get them done without feeling like I'm torturing myself to do so.

Supposedly it takes a while to build up in the system but I already feel differences. I'm extremely sensitive to homeostasis so even small things are very noticeable to me. So far I:

--Am less terrified. I don't feel a spike of fear/dread and then exhaustion when I need to perform a task.

--Have more energy to do things.

--feel less of an impulse to check messages

--don't need to stop what I'm doing to seek some kind of dopamine hit

--have less brain fog and the need for my brain to be jumping from thought to thought to thought

--The absolute BEST one so far is that time has slowed down. I feel like I have the breathing room to DO things rather than trying to rush to get something done and then jump to a new task. I don't feel like I'm chasing myself around with a whip to get anything and everything done.

I already know that this is going to help me IMMENSELY with my art, with keeping up with Patreon, and with life in general.

I am very happy to hear that you’ve been having such positive results with this!!

Hoorah!!

It could be the inattentive kind of ADHD! I had no idea until I started seeing posts from people who had it and were citing the strange symptoms you don't hear about. Check out the ADHD Alien comics on Twitter and see if any of them sound like you.

oh dear, What on earth is this fuckface business?? Do you have a coworker being a pain in your ass?

hibbary

That's fascinating, thank you for sharing! I'm also struggling with ADHD and SAFE (severe acute fuckface exposure) at my job so it's hard to sort out what is internal vs. externally caused :/ As always I'm impressed by what you've been able to achieve despite this huge weight on you and I'm looking forward to you feeling better and less agonized. <3

Holy moly, all of these things you're talking about sound exactly like what I'm experiencing and have continued to chalk up to "you have a stressful job and don't eat right or get enough exercise, so of course you feel like this", which of course isn't helping me out any.

All the cheers!

The fact that things are so much better already make me very hopeful for the future! I look forward to it for once :P

Love hearing this! So happy you're in a nice space right now :D
