Amethyst dragon

Soooo, I grew up with Dungeons and Dragons, and because I'm old, I have been with it since NEARLY first edition. I always really liked the gem dragons but they didn't make it into the regular 3ed monstrous manual (they were in some other book but the style was really unusual? Not bad, but not Todd Lockwood's) so I've decided to try updating them, myself.

Here's my first pass, which is FINE, but I'm now comparing it to the Lockwood drawings, studying the linework, and I'm going to have another go, emulating his style more. He does a lot of crosshatching, where I've just done hatching, and a great deal more of it. He also articulated the forms more and better (which is something I need to do for my own drawing, anyway, so two birds with one stone there).
