Pileated woodpecker

Pileated woodpeckers are crow-sized birds that mostly feed on carpenter ants and their larva. Now that the ivory billed woodpecker is extinct (those bastards were raven sized!) they are the largest woodpecker in the world.
This fellow was looking for dinner right outside my workroom window. My roommate spotted him and we crept up to the window and stole his soul :P

2017-05-21 22:30:09 +0000 UTCWe had a pileated woodpecker that used to sit on the windowsill and peck the glass to get our attention. I'm shocked it didn't break the pane. Those are BIG birds. O_O
