Unfortunate Patreon Confusion
Added 2015-10-28 16:53:11 +0000 UTCHello all!
October's been a bit of a slow month for a few reasons, one being my work has really ramped up, and the second being that I suspect the monthly pledge is actually way lower than it seems. A lot of accounts with fake addresses have signed up and skewed the dollar amount. I've read that it's a big problem, people stealing patreon content in this way, but I didn't think it would be an issue for me because I upload pretty much everything to various parts of the web. I have no paywall.
If I were receiving as much as Patreon says I am I'd be able to devote a lot more time to Patreon art, but sadly, I suspect it is a very small fraction of that and had to spend more time with my day job. I'm going to have to wait until November to see who gets declined so I can gauge how much time I can spend on Patreon posts.

Wow! How high? I could handle a request a day if it meant I could make all my own work.

2015-10-29 17:54:39 +0000 UTCI saw your pledge amount jump up pretty high a month ago then drop back down. But in a way, doesn't that work out? That would have been ~30 requests a month, about one a day.

Yeah I clued into the issue when I did everything I could to get in contact with the new patrons for requests and couldn't at all. They were then declined for September. Thanks for your support :) I've been thinking about it all day and I think probably I shouldn't even worry about the end dollar amount and just spend all my free time making art.

2015-10-28 21:10:15 +0000 UTCSorry to hear that! One thing I've seen people do is make a fake highest pledge level-- the Patreon-scraping bots will always go for the highest level but you can indicate to actual humans reading the pledge that it's not real and anyone taking it will be blocked. I've also seen other artists who give out tangible goods say that they will not make you anything until your first payment clears, which I think is eminently fair (in your case it looks like requests/critiques/cards). Anyway, I at least pledged to chip in to support you, not to see you suffer, so please don't feel bad about managing your time investment. :D

2015-10-28 21:01:18 +0000 UTCAnd I thank you for that :) Like I told Silje, it's not that I'm sore that people are 'stealing' my content, since I give most of it out free later anyway. It's more of a scheduling thing. I gotta make dat room and board fundage.

2015-10-28 19:52:30 +0000 UTCI'm not sure! Honestly, I'm not really annoyed with people 'stealing' so much as not being able to guess how much time I can set aside for Patreon work. I'll be able to do more for November anyway, though, hopefully.

2015-10-28 17:11:32 +0000 UTCSo sorry to hear that =( Just make sure the request are earned only after paying, cause that is one thing that is only gained from higher tiers. I might not be paying much, but at least I'm honest about it and stay on my lower tier. Hope some of it is simply new pledgers, since it wont count on your balance until next month =)
