Beyond20 releases!

Hello everybody!

What a week, wow!

As mentioned in my last status update, I was planning on releasing Beyond20 within "the next couple of days", and I did! I actually released Beyond20 v2.4.2 on June 1st, yeay! đŸ„ł

However, as I was planning on writing about it here the following day, we got reports of a critical issue that forced me to go back in there and fix and test and re-release an update to it, and so, v2.4.3 was released! Also on June 1st (though late that night, vs early in the morning). Again, by that time, I was too tired to post about it, so I waited the following day, and that's when D&D Beyond released their new targeted rolls update for Digital Dice, which broke Beyond20 again! So I've worked on fixing that, as well as a few other issues that were reported since. I've spent hours testing this because I became paranoid and I was too worried about having some other bug in it that would need yet another release, but I finally felt confident enough, and that lead us to the Beyond20 v2.4.4 update which I released about an hour ago... While writing this Patreon post, and trying to make the screenshots you see above, I finally encountered yet another critical bug, which causes the D&D Beyond page to become unresponsive if a roll table is in a character sheet's feature. So I went back and fixed that, and released 2.4.5. I think I might need some vacation!

So there you go, enjoy the v2.4.5 release of Beyond20, which I really hope is without any critical bugs! As you can see from the screenshots above, the feature in this, euhh.. these releases is the support for rolling directly from source books and for rolling tables directly.

Thanks everyone for the support and for keeping me working on this amazing piece of software!

See below for the full release notes for these last 4 releases as well as the change logs.

Enjoy!

2.4.2 (June 1st 2021)
I’m really excited about this Beyond20 update, as it adds a feature I’ve been wanting to add for a long time.
While this is marked as 2.4.2, which means it’s a “minor” update, it’s actually got some really major features, like the ability to roll from source books and classes pages, and a newly added support for roll tables (give the treasure tables in the DMG a try)!
This release also adds support for the latest Foundry VTT stable version 0.8.6 which was released today, so for those of you who have updated your Foundry to the latest release, you’ll be able to use Beyond20 without problems. If you haven’t seen the latest Foundry update video (with a nice feature tour of the VTT), I recommend you check out the video on Foundry’s youtube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuyzLlk_QQQ and of course, if you want to enhance that gaming experience even further and get the best hosting there is, with plenty of awesome features on top, you have to drop by to The Forge and subscribe! 😄
Among other smaller bugfixes, a long standing bug that was fixed in this release is the one where dice formulas in the class features list or action snippets might get split in two and appear as two separate formulas. I finally managed to figure out a way to fix that bug, so hopefully there are no more issues there.
Overall, I’m quite happy with this release, and I suggest you check out the Changelog for the full list of changes (a small/readable changelog for once). I have recently posted a status update on my Patreon that lists my current projects and plans for the short term, if anyone is curious and/or interested in giving it a read.
Thank you to all my Patrons and ko-fi/github supporters, and for everyone who helped make this possible.
Thank you all for using this software and for being part of this amazing community. Enjoy, and keep rolling!
2.4.3 (June 1st 2021)
Oups, a small (but critical) bug slipped through 2.4.2 released earlier today. This should fix it along with a couple of other small bugs discovered. See release notes below for what’s new in today’s releases.
2.4.4 (June 4th 2021)
Wow, a third release of Beyond20 in as many days! Shortly after the last release, D&D Beyond released an update to the character sheets which adds support for targetted rolls in the Digital Dice roller, which broke rolling with Beyond20 when Digital Dice were enabled. This 2.4.4 hotfix release will fix the issue, along with a few other small issues. Read on below for more information on this week’s release.
2.4.5 (June 4th 2021)
And merely 30 minutes later, a 4th hotfix release because clearly I’ve lost touch with reality.

v2.4.2 (June 1st 2021)

v2.4.3 (June 1st 2021)

Comments

Maybe there's some misunderstanding here on what you meant by "native rolls". The "Foundry native rolls" feature is an option to make Beyond20 rolls actually use a Foundry character sheet, where it modifies it live to make the roll using the Foundry internal character sheet and methods. That allows some integration with other specific modules that may do some crazy stuff when a specific type of roll is executed, for example. Your question though seems to imply you're asking if your players could use D&D Beyond with Foundry using Beyond20, in which case, yes, absolutely! I personally never use the internal character sheets of Foundry, and just do all my rolls with Beyond20 directly. That should work without issues. If it doesn't, then maybe there's something else going on here with your setup that we need to look at. I hope that helps!

Thank you sir! Is it an active part of development? I reallllly don’t want to use internal character sheets. My players see dndbeyond like a baby sees a binky.

Native rolls needs to be rewritten (the previous design didn't work so well and was unfinished), and it only supports 0.7.x, not Foundry 0.8.x nor the latest changes to the dnd5e system. At the moment, consider that feature as still being unusable for the most part.

Is native rolls working in Forge for anybody? Not sure if it's just me.
