Janurary Update- Psychonauts 2 (and other stuff)
Added 2022-01-27 01:58:11 +0000 UTCHi gang-
Thought it'd be an idea to keep you up to date on the plans over the next couple weeks or so. I was hoping to update by now with the new video, but on the offchance that might dip into early Feburary, I thought it would be best to get ahead of the news here.
All of this month- and I mean all- I've been trying to get the Psychonauts 2 video on its feet, and I have to tell you, it's been a real doozy! I don't think i've ever had such issues trying to articulate my thoughts on something this much, to the point where, when I had a full audio file and started listening back to the video as I edited, I went 'hang on, I'm not sure that's quite right.' After a week or so of even more gruelling rewrites, I think we're finally on the path to the completed video.

These edits were done on the previous script over a week or so, came together quite quickly and, with the new audio elements included, everything's re-aligned so I can plough on with the rest of the footage placement. Editing's fast, as usual it's just the scripts that take up all the time, and I also have a surprisingly crafty part of this video that made things a little more difficult than usual- don't worry, I'll explain everything here once I'm done!
I have hope I can get this video fully edited in the next five days, but i'm aware it's still quite a bit of work, and I'm sure you guys don't want me to rush this. If it comes to that I will sadly have to push it to Feb, but I'm hoping it doesn't come to that.
The good news is, I already have work for future projects lined up and can more confidently say they'll be out over the next two months. The rundown of my main priorities right now include-
-Talking about something I did on youtube before my video essays
-Discussing the work of a certain director's musical films
-The Jak video promised last year
-At least one major video essay on my list I haven't yet announced
The first three are written, and will not take anywhere near as long to make, reword or wrestle with on the level of the Psychonauts video. I do still have some other real life situations going on but we're in a good place with the work right now, especially now Psychonauts is getting ready to publish. With the above videos out of the way I can turn my attentions to other promises like the long threatened Spiderman video, a few other small surprises i've had tinkering away in the background, and I'll also be pushing much harder on the Marvel retrospective that I promised - I am extremely keen to have that ready for production before September this year.
I also just became a twitch affiliate and have plans to get some streams going once the video's live. If you haven't yet seen it, do give me a follow there- I'll be updating my plans for that on the channel soon afterwards too. https://www.twitch.tv/b_mask
That just about covers everything! Apologies again for the delays, but I think it's for the best Psy 2 got given as much attention as it did, probably a video almost unintentionally more on the level of what I did with the Sly retrospectives. You'll have to tell me if that's a good thing or not!
Til then my lovelies,

ooh I see that's interesting. I guess for both video essays I've done I did make bad scripts and had to redo everything both times so I do get it. it's hard to tell initially what needs to be said or explained and stuff. with picking images I'm very picky so that might be part of it. for this video I'm doing, I actually had so much footage I split it into separate timelines for things like 'action' 'things with this character' 'comedy bits' etc. and I don't think it streamlined things as much as I wanted it to. still figuring out the editing workflow here. I usually pick which clips as I'm editing, I usually don't know what I'll use when I'm writing the VO lines.

2022-01-28 02:05:42 +0000 UTCI think the main issue is that I'm not very good at knowing exactly what I want to say the moment I want to say it. I'll have the feeling from day one but it can take a longer to get that feeling into words, and I'm terrified that people will get the wrong impression- so, i'll say or write something, and then suddenly think of all the ways that might be countered or misunderstood, which pushes me to keep finding the best way to cover that while getting the point across. It's not a terribly great thing to do and I am trying to get better at not editing my immediate thoughts, but I also see the videos benefitting from that extra time, so it's a tough one to work out. However, when it comes to editing, I find it’s so much easier to wipe through footage and find the images I want to fit what I’m trying to say. I spent so long making sure everything I said was what I wanted that it makes it a lot easier to imagine what I want to see represent it on screen, and truth be told I often write with what the video might look like in my head. Sometimes I do that and then find the footage doesn’t really match up, but mostly this works and makes the process a real fast drag and drop session with a lot of ad-libbed experimenting as I go, swapping between footage and images that might work even better or coming up with new ideas on the fly. Not a very concise answer so I apologise but I hope this answers the question? I feel like this answer encapsulates exactly my issues with writing by the way I’ve written it lol

2022-01-27 18:14:17 +0000 UTCgenuine question - how do you edit so fast? for me, the writing phase is easy and it's the editing that takes me forever. I have a video rn that I wrote in maybe 2 days but I'm 2-3 weeks deep into editing. granted I work full time so I only get like 2 hours on most days tops to edit. and for what it's worth I use DaVinci and my project so far is probably gonna be 32 minutes.
