A lot of viewers have been asking me to mirror my videos to an alternative video hosting platform. This would have a lot of advantages, for example being able to download videos and watch them without ads.
So today I'm announcing a PeerTube instance where I'll be mirroring all of my YouTube videos! It will be self-hosted on a VPS and available for all Patreon tiers in the coming weeks.
I thought about mirroring the videos to LBRY or other alternative platforms, but ultimately decided to take the self-hosting route since it gives me more control over the software. However, this also comes with a small disadvantage: hosting a video platform is not free – I'll be renting an instance with 512GB of storage for now, which costs $5 per month.
This is why the instance will be available for Patrons only – starting with $1 a month, I feel that it's more than affordable for most viewers and will cover the server costs. For $1 a month you'll be able to watch my videos without any ads or distractions and download them directly from the website. Of course, you can still just use uBlock Origin and download the videos with youtube-dl – that's is totally fine by me :)
