The Wire Season 5 EP 10 Early Uncut Access

I know you probably won’t get to it but seriously. Carnivale is such an amazing show back from the HBO golden days (along with Sopranos, Rome, the wire and Deadwood) filmmaking wise it is masterfully done! Very David Lynch inspired. But Seriously you need to hit all the Golden era HBO shows.

Great analysis!

In a very interesting way, Omar won the war with Marlo. Unlike Stringer who wanted to walk away with that big bag, Marlo was not about money. Marlo was about his reputation, his name ringing out, control and fear. That is what kept him going. A rare case where the criminal is motivated by the immaterial things. And Omar took that away from him. Omar has been shown time and again to be like the greek myths he looked up to as a kid. Everyone knows him, fears him and talks about him. And after he got killed by a nobody, we hear more and more out there rumors about Omar. How he died. They keep the legend going. Meanwhile Marlo is either already forgotten, or some know that he never stepped up to Omar. The average TV viewer would expect Omar to have gone after Chris, Snoop and Marlo and gotten his bloody revenge. But this season we saw Omar at his weakest. Blinded by rage like never before, taking no prisoners, leaving all morals behind. And that got him in the end. But even tho he did not get physical revenge, he got the metaphysical revenge. Omar is a legend that lives on in the city for years to come. Meanwhile what becomes of Marlo? He ironically got Stringers dream, but I bet he would be happier if he got shot instead. He is stuck with money he doesn’t care for, being surrounded by vultures who want something from him, all the while his reputation is no more, and the proverbial sword of Damocles is hanging over his head in the form of an investigation, that will reopen the second he makes a move. And his last scene shows that he can’t go 15 minutes without starting trouble. Marlo is in a purgatory. A great white shark in a small aquarium, where it can’t swim freely or hunt. So in the end, who won? I’d say Omar. He has the legend, the legacy and the last laugh.
