RIP David Lynch

Everyone would love to see your reaction to Twin Peaks.

Wonderful stuff, beautifully thought out and put together. While Eraserhead is a film that doesn't connect with me, it doesn't mean i cant appreciate it for the work of art that it is. This is a great testament to David Lynch and that is the most important thing. A truly unique and passionate film maker whose art will last long in to the future. For me, I will always cherish The Elephant Man and Wild at Heart. Thank you for putting this together and sharing, as always stay awesome and stay genuine, much love x

love to see a reaction to Twin Peaks

Elephant Man, as well, IIRC. But there’s still a Twin Peaks sized hole there. I think he’d love Cooper.

James HAS seen (at least) Blue Velvet and Mullholland Drive as well. He's reacted to both on the channel, in case you didn't already know.

Oh, and I would definitely love to see a reaction to Twin Peaks, but be warned that there's a real rough patch in season two, when David had left the series and it kind of turned into a cringy self-parody for a while. It wasn't Lynch's project alone. The lead writer, Mark Frost, deserves a lot of the credit for making the series what it was, and wrote most of the shows most memorable lines, but after David left and the network demanded a full season, regardless, a lot of episodes ended up being written by people who clearly didn't get the show. They just thought it was wacky, but missed the underlying, unsettling darkness that permeated it, mixed with an oddly contrasting deep love for humanity.

I would obviously recommend checking out the rest of Lynch's filmography, but if you are interested in more dreamlike cinema, check out the short films of Maya Deren. She was a clear influence on Lynch, particularly her first film, Meshes of the Afternoon, which is available for free on youtube. Or, if you want something a bit more challenging, the Magick Lantern Cycle series of short films by Kenneth Anger (whose own life story was almost weird enough to be the subject of a David Lynch movie).

Do you like the band Rammstein? A lot of fans consider David Lynch the reason they broke out after they sent him a demo and he put a song in Lost Highway.

You watching all three seasons of Twin Peaks would be a match made in heaven

Twin peaks is not a show for every reactor but I absolutely believe you could do it justice.

You’re definitely right on the money with a lot of this and would love to see more videos like this in the future. For me personally while there is a lot of anxiety in the film I feel more dread (maybe one encompasses the other?) dread of becoming a father to a premature infant, dread of being stuck in this industrial nightmare, dread of not being able to do anything to change your circumstances. I feel the story of eraserhead while abstract is very simple surrounding the dread and fear of becoming a father. That’s just my simplistic take on it but you definitely made me think about more aspects to this and I thank you for making this video. I am actually working on a video myself going over all of Lynch’s films so this was very inspiring to watch!

It surprised me not one bit that Twin Peaks was set up here in moody, atmospheric Washington State. David Lynch liked the charm and sense of menace. I live not too far from the Double R Diner (Twede's) and stop in for some damn fine coffee and cherry pie. 🍒🍒🍒

Mulholland drive is one of my all time favorite movies though I have only seen it once and doubt I could ever see it again. It's definitely forever stuck with me. He was certainly brilliant! And will be dearly missed

Hahahaha heaven definitely got a lil weirder

James Adams

Nice! I’ll check how YouTube treats their series when it comes to all of that!

I second. Elsewhere I spoke to other young communities about how this show rocked us back when it aired. But I believe it holds up, not only as a time capsule of the early 90's but as a timeless tale. I have seen, since, many TV murder mysteries pay homage to Lynches tale of Twin Peaks, particularly in "The Killing" (2011-2014) which is an amazing show by itself, but with foreknowledge of Lynches early 90's show, the nods are wonderfully obvious.

Mr. Lynch was a weird, wild one, but incredibly talented, and the definition of "visionary." He had some impeccable taste. I point one towards the 2017 "3rd season" of Twin Peaks, called "The Return" -- the musical guests on that limited series were amazing. Their lyrics somehow fed the narrative, and gave a brief respite to the unsettling goings on in each episode. His music choices in all his productions were pretty great, but these in 2017 seemed to mark a high water point for me. I mean, Eddie Vedder & Nine inch nails performed! Come on. Anyway, great loss, but what a time to be alive and witness this man's greatness from start to finish in my lifetime. Heaven got a little weirder this month.

Beautifully said James. The youtube comments are already lighting up with requests to watch through Twin Peaks, and I will say again here: please do
