2023-06-27 17:22:35 +0000 UTCDefinitely depends on what movies are pitched against each other. It's a surprisingly even contest at the moment. Withnail and I is level pegging with Rocknrolla. That's actually striking something of a blow for cinephiles. The Apartment is giving a good account of itself. I've seen Michael Clayton cop an absolute bath in previous polls - but here it is now on the verge of a silver medal. There's hope for any movie under the right circumstances (even Monos).

Shame too because its utterly brilliant and very darkly funny in almost a "if Rik Mayall and Ade Edmonson were more highbrow" kind of way. The Apartment should really win this with flying colors; that's one of the shortlist golden screenplays of Hollywood. But, yeah, dialing back to the b&w classics from before the 1970s doesn't seem to blip all that much on a lot of these patrons' radars. If only, right?
