In many countries, they were the people who were unlike everyone else, who were Christians and society was dominated by the church. So they were segregated into ghettos and generally oppressed. Culminating in the Holocaust. Now, there are so many minorities to hate in Europe and the West that Jews have to get in line. In many places, it's Palestinians who are considered the "other", to be erased.

I know him from his incredible book 'Against Paranoid Nationalism: Searching for Hope in a Shrinking Society' which is included in the above book, along with 'White Nation: Fantasies of White Supremacy in a Multicultural Society'!
