The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Filmmaker Uncut Movie Reaction!

Comments

you really gotta check out 'the house that jack built' one day!!!

Fuck. Yes. Happy Halloween. Don’t bother with the sequels. Except for The Next Generation. That’s some serious “so bad it’s good” schlock.

This is THE film for me. The one that made me see horror in a totally different light. I’ve seen horror movies before. I seen the Halloweens, The Nightmares, and The Jasons. All fun. But I never had a visceral reaction till i saw this film. Cause it felt so real. The editing, the look, the pacing. It just does something to you. And especially if you live in Texas and driven through it, it definitely has that authenticity. So yeah this is definitely my fav horror film because of how it impacted me.

Yeah, in general any movie at all saying based on a true story is meaningless. You can have a fictional movie about Danny Devito becoming president, and say it's based on a true story because maybe Danny Devito once had a dream where he became president, or maybe there is a moose in the movie, and Danny Devito has seen a moose before. The Ed Gein stuff is an inspiration, but yeah. It's not like writing text or having audio words spoken in a film is like being under oath, so long as you aren't getting your pants sued off for slander/defamation, or worse treason, you can say whatever you want and make things sound like radio shows or news reports, etc. Just like you can have a piece of pork in a movie and have a character call it bison, you can write based on a true story or, the events of this story really happened on x date, y location, etc. and make it up. I never did watch any after the original, but I the original is a classic for sure. Understandably, as some films *are* based strongly on true stories or even attempt to be a real to life perfect dramatization, anytime you see that, you will typically ask or wonder.

In regards to whether this is a true story, not really. Whenever these sort of movies claim to be based on a true story they are always referring to Ed Gein, a serial killer in Wisconsin from the 50s who did weird taxidermy and wore women's skin. Also, just a warning about sequels: none are great. 2 is so good bad it is almost great and features Dennis Hopper having a chainsaw duel with leatherface, but is mostly a parody of the original. The 3rd one is only notable in that Vigo Mortenson is in it. The 4th has the second worst twist ending I have ever seen and also Matthew McConaughey.

Yours truly, Johnny Dollar

I was way too young the first time I watched this movie and it's still my favorite horror movie to this day. Rest in peace Tobe Hooper, Marilyn Burns, Gunnar Hansen, Jim Siedow and Paul A Partain.
