I agree with Ashley and Ali about Barbie. The movie was not trying to be a radical feminist manifesto, and it's ridiculous to hold it to that standard. We don't hold other movies to that standard. I think it's worth asking why Barbie in particular is the target of such vociferous criticism for not being "not feminist enough" and why we are so upset that it is a "bad movie" (when really it's no worse than other hollywood blockbusters). It's just the same old film bro talking points that we heard about other women-led movies like Ghostbusters, etc. We just can't seem to tolerate the idea that a movie made for women by women could be successful. Barbie made basic feminist ideas more accessible to the masses, and I think that deserves applause.

I KNOW WHAT IT IS! When discussing our hesitancy/not wanting to be creepy, many of us are aware of how much creepy/predatory shit happens to women/femmes (bc we like listen to them lol) and we’re afraid of perpetuating that bc A) we are aware of the scope of this problem and B) we haven’t yet figured out a way to embody attraction to women that isn’t a reproduction of the toxic attitudes in our culture…thats my theory anyway.
