STARBIRD - TIMELINE #973081

(Timeline Tuesday #221)

While starbirds can appear to some like distant timeline visitors from a far-flung reality, the truth is these creatures hail from an existence shockingly close to our own. Yes, they appear to be strange, floating invertebrates, but closer inspection reveals a striking similarity to the common starfish. In fact, starbirds are nearly identical to these creatures, with the simple caveat that they float through the air instead of crawl underwater.

These creatures sport five legs and are relatively flat. They range in colors, but orange or purple starbirds are the most common. The bottom of a starbird is covered in fine, sticky tendrils, and it features a mouth at the center of its body. They have no brain, and are harmless to humans.

Starbirds find and catch small food that drifts through their tendrils as they float along, mostly dining on pollen or small insects. Unless blown by forceful winds, starbirds hover at incredibly slow speeds, their heights commonly ranging from five to fifty feet in the air. A sick, old or dying starbird can sometimes be found much lower, however, and when they pass away the species will immediately drop to the ground.
