(Timeline Tuesday #214)
Blockbirds are mechanical, flying entities from a nearby timeline. They are constructed mostly from a series of cubes, featuring a square central head and two back pieces that function as the creature’s body. From these back cubes their legs and wings sprout, thin poles ending in smaller blocks. On the bottom, these ending blocks are where the creature’s talons sprout from, and the top ones serve as an ending for their wings, which are made from a thin, leathery material that is not known on our reality.
Blockbird coloration is a subtle orange that covers most of their body. Their wings, however, are a brilliant yellow. The eyes of a blockbird glow with brilliant white energy, although the creature is capable of dimming them while hunting at night. The darkening of a blockbird’s eyes is commonly known as a sign of impending attack.
Despite their constructed nature, blockbirds behave quite similar to natural birds. They even hunt and consume biological matter, ingesting smaller birds, rodents or snakes as a means of fuel. They cannot, however, grow or lay eggs, which puts a hard limit on the blockbird population. They will not age and die, but they will also not procreate. Because of this, blockbirds are a diligently protected species, the entire population arriving on our reality hundreds of years ago by some mysterious circumstance and slowly dwindling since then.
As such, they have become an important symbol in the fight for reality conservation.
