(Timeline Tuesday #180)
Sprongles are dangerous but fascinating creatures from a nearby timeline, bearing similarities to birds, reptiles and mammals. They are cold-blooded and lay eggs, with a large, pronounced bill, but they are also covered in a fine golden fur.
As their name may suggest, sprongles spend most of their time wound up like a spring. This makes it difficult to get a read on the length of their slender, snake-like bodies. When stretched out, however, sprongles can reach up to ten feet in length. They are incredibly muscular and powerful, capable of slithering or leaping at incredible speeds.
Sprongles drink blood, gathering all the sustenance they need from this singular liquid. They hunt by coiling themselves up in tall grass or forest undergrowth, waiting for their unsuspecting prey to wander by. When this happens a sprongle will launch upward at incredible speeds, using their sharp beak like a spear and puncturing through their target. They will often stay imbedded in their victim and drink their blood while stuck deep within the flesh.
Fortunately, spoingles do not prefer human prey, mostly subsisting off whatever livestock or large wandering mammals they can find. This is due to the larger size of cows, elk or horses, meaning more blood for the sprongle. However, it is not unheard of for humans to be attacked by these creatures if the find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.
