Dow-wows are a charming mammalian species from a nearby timeline, who feel right at home on our reality. These creatures stand about three feet tall, approximately 12 inches more than an average golden retriever, and their demeanor is quite comparable. They are naturally friendly towards humans, and are quick to bond with those who treat them well.
Dow-wows sport a pale-yellow coat of very short hair, while longer hair runs down the ridge of their spine in an orange hue. They have four muscular legs to propel them forward at incredible speeds. They end in hooves. A dow-wow’s head is thin and slender, leading down into an elephant-like trunk. They have long, droopy ears that hang down, and two unusually large brown eyes.
The most notable thing about a dow-wow’s appearance is their tail, which culminates in a small translucent bulb. This bulb is a biological part of the creature, filled with a sticky substance with which the dow-wow can alter its hue. This substance is also highly bioluminescent. What these traits offer is the ability to shine their tail like a signal light. These lights can be visible in the darkness for many miles in open planes, which are their natural habitat. Dow-wows use various colors to communicate with one another, signaling danger or affection or hunger depending on the exact hue.
Scientists have studied the colors of dow-wow signals and discovered at least two hundred unique messages or meanings to these hues. This suggests an awareness of subtle color-variation that humans could only dream of.
Dow-wows are herbivores, preferring to snack on grass and vegetation.
