Eye-eye-eyes are a bizarre species of spherical, floating observers from a distant timeline. They are approximately five feet across, although as you will soon learn, the actual dimensions of this creature’s true form are up for debate. In appearance, this species resembles an enormous disembodied eyeball that drifts slowly through the air, pale white with various veins that trace along the back of the organ. The iris of each creature will range across the spectrum of natural eye colors, from dark brown to green to brilliant blue.
The most unexpected thing about eye-eye-eyes, however, is their large pupil—or rather, what lies within their pupil. While a normal eye would have a dark, unobstructed opening for light to enter, the eye-eye-eye uses this space to host a whole other eye. This second eye is identical to the first, only at a much smaller scale, and hovers within the hollowed out space of the original organ. What’s more, this second eye also includes an even smaller third eye within its body.
These nesting dolls of eyes continue on and on. How deep the biological recursion goes is a subject of much debate, but even at the smallest microscopic level there always seems to be another eye within the one that came before it. This begs the question, which was originally hinted at in our opening paragraph, what lies at the center? Who is piloting this never-ending series of shells?
Each successive eye appears to be taking commands from the smaller host within, with no brain nor other life-giving organs to be found. Yet, despite all this, eye-eye-eyes show basic animal intelligence, avoiding predators and going about their business as they float around and observe various events.
