(Timeline Tuesday #134)
Targon Blooms are a dangerous and invasive intelligent fungus from the “Targon” timeline, which is a name chosen by the targon bloom itself. This species is slow growing, requiring plenty of moisture but very little sun to replicate. The caps of this fungus sport a distinct color pattern that alternates between orange and light blue.
This particular pattern is the most power feature of a targon bloom, creating a hypnotic effect on anyone who witnesses it. The effects of this pattern are swift, causing a hypnotic state within a matter of seconds, however those who quickly look away can avoid being effected. The power of a targon bloom can even register through recordings, such as film or digital video, causing the same effects. Fortunately, scientists have created specialized goggles that will filter the color and shape in a specific way, rendering this hypnosis ineffective.
Those under the spell of a targon bloom will immediately align themselves with the fungus. They will insist that others look at the targon bloom, and return to gaze upon the pattern themselves. Typically, the hypnotic effect with end within 72 hours of first witnessing the fungus, but repeated exposure will start this process over again, meaning many who fall into this bizarre state will not leave it without outside intervention.
The entire home timeline of the targon bloom features victims from various realities, all of them living in service of the bloom. They water the species and allow it to grow across everything, fully consuming their world.
