Vortraxes are a species of sentient energy from a distant timeline. It is believed their home reality is a place without physical matter, a plane constructed entirely from energetic forces colliding and rupturing. Vortraxes are visually represented in this reality as a constantly swirling disk of force, a light blue display of energy with a soft yellow interior. It is believed by some that staring into a vortrax long enough will reveal the vague semblance of a face, but just as many people think this is due to our mind’s tendency to recognize familiar shapes, even when they’re not really there.

Vortraxes are a communal species that consist on other forms of energy for sustenance. They consume anything from kinetic force to electrical currents, and this makes them incredibly dangerous. Human brains are kept thriving with the help of electricity, and an encounter with a hungry vortex can mean instant death for those unfortunate enough to cross their path. These terrible attacks are not necessarily the fault of the vortrax, however, as these creatures do not understand the nature of existence on this timeline. It is highly unlikely any vortex would comprehend what it did wrong after consuming a human’s lifeforce.

When one or more vortraxes enters a populated area, timeline authorities should immediately be called. While it’s impossible to “kill” a vortrax, due to energy never really disappearing, there have been several tools developed in the field of vortrax protection. Nearly all of these anti-vortrax devices offer some variation on sending the targeted vortrax to another timeline, or to a space between realities.

In nature, these creatures tend to roam near places of elevated natural energy, like running water, or areas where lightning storms are common.
