Othermoons are a species of enormous, circular lifeform that make their homes drifting through space. While they appear quite similar to our own natural moon from a distance, there are a handful of features that strongly distinguish othermoons from any sort of naturally occurring celestial body.

First, othermoons are much small than a planet or moon. In fact, this species ranges from a mere three to four miles in diameter. The illusion of othermoons being a massive, orbiting moon out in space is created by the species’ habit of hovering quite close to the earth’s surface, much closer than any planet. Second, while othermoons are bioluminescent, they have a distinct bluish shade to their surface which is actually quite thick and leathery up close. Tiny eyes are also placed across the surface of this floating orb at random intervals, much too small for anyone to see from the ground with their naked eye.

Othermoons have a biological ability to move between timelines at will, but they often appear in places where sentient, intelligent beings are gathered. They do this for sustenance, which is provided to othermoons through the unique form of dream energy.

If an othermoon is hovering close to a human, or similar lifeform, this lifeform will find their sleep particularly restful and full of peaceful dreams. It is within these dreams that humanoid figures will approach the dreamer, their skin the same blue hue as the othermoon. These visitors will exhibit strange behavior, but are never threatening. They will ask for food, and more often than not, the dreamer will prepare them an imaginary meal. Somehow, this process provides othermoons sustenance in the real world.

Othermoons only stay in one location for three to five days, then continue on their journey. Sometimes they will visit a second city, but typically the othermoon will simply drift off into another timeline of existence.
