(Timeline Tuesday #71)
Flamadills are an invasive species of flower, originating from an alternate timeline. They are not sentient, and are therefore unaware of the damage they cause, but this species has arrived here none-the-less and are now a massive problem for forest and wildlife management around the world. It is believed Flamadill seeds were originally transported to our reality in the pelt or droppings of some other interplanar creature, then left to spread.
Unlike the water-based flora of our reality, Flamadills are full of two distinct substances. Inside the stalk is a highly flammable liquid that is quite similar to the gasoline of our timeline. This liquid is a defense mechanism for the plant, ejecting from the center of their body and somehow quickly igniting to scare off anyone who gets too close. Careful study of Flamadills has revealed they are high attuned to vibrations of the ground around them.
The other substance that fills a Flamadill’s body, pedals and leaves is equally impressive. It is an inflammable substance, which keeps the plant perpetually wet and immune to any potential burning.
Unlike the natural flora of our timeline, Flamadills get their energy through intense heat, rather than sunlight. After a large Flamadill fire, there will often been a spontaneous new bloom of the plants nearby.
Other than their powerful defense mechanism and unique source of energy, Flamadills mostly function as typical plants. They have green stalks and their blooming flowers are orange, yellow and white. The most curious hint at their combustible nature, however, is the flamelike shape of their hanging leaves.
